Paralyzed Veterans of America and Food City: A Partnership for Change
From July 1 to July 28, 2026, Food City will host an inspiring in-store donation drive in collaboration with Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA). This annual event sees patrons encouraged to contribute $1, $3, or $5 at the checkout, with all funds going directly to support veterans with spinal cord injuries or diseases. This year's campaign is particularly special as NASCAR legends Richard Petty and his son Kyle Petty step into the spotlight to champion the cause.
Over the past decade, Food City has raised a remarkable $4.5 million for PVA, making significant strides in ensuring that veterans receive the specialized healthcare, benefits, and career opportunities they've earned through their dedicated service. Robert Thomas, a U.S. Army Veteran and PVA's National President, expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, emphasizing how the efforts of Food City and its customers have materially improved the lives of veterans. He stated, "PVA is honored to partner once again with Food City and Richard Petty and welcome Kyle Petty to our family of supporters. The generosity of Food City's customers and staff directly changes the lives of veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases, like MS and ALS."
The Petty family is no stranger to lending support to veterans. Richard Petty remarked on the significance of this collaboration: "For more than a decade, I've had the privilege of giving back to the men and women who have served this country. This year is even more meaningful having my son Kyle join me in support of PVA and the veterans whose lives this partnership continues to change." Kyle echoed these sentiments, recalling his experiences while racing with the PVA-branded car. "I was blessed during my NASCAR career to drive the PVA race car, and that experience showed me firsthand the difference this organization makes in veterans' lives."
Customers shopping at Food City have multiple ways to contribute: they can directly select a donation amount during their checkout process or choose to round up their total to promote even greater contributions. This flexible approach enables everyone, including online shoppers, to participate in making a difference.
In a message to Food City employees and loyal customers, Steven C. Smith, president and CEO of Food City, expressed appreciation for their ongoing support that has made the campaign successful year after year. He stated, "Together, we have been able to provide vital support to PVA and make our communities stronger. We look forward to working alongside PVA and Richard Petty again this year and we are excited to welcome Kyle Petty to the campaign."
PVA is a non-profit organization dedicated solely to assisting veterans with spinal cord injuries and diseases.
