Flags of Fellowship Campaign Returns to Combat Anti-Semitism
The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews (IFCJ) has announced the start of its third annual Flags of Fellowship (FOF) campaign, aimed at commemorating the victims of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel and fighting against the growing wave of anti-Semitism. This year's campaign will take place over the week surrounding October 7, with memorial services and events planned at over 1,500 participating churches, universities, and synagogues worldwide. The Fellowship aims to secure the participation of more than 2,500 organizations this year, planting an impressive 3 million Israeli flags to mark the occasion.
The FOF campaign is not just a memorial initiative; it strives to provide a significant platform for Christians to demonstrate their solidarity with Israel. Each of the 1,200 mini Israeli flags planted at participating sites symbolizes a life lost during the tragic events, and together, they represent a powerful act of support for the Israeli people during these challenging times. Many organizations plan to host dedicated events to honor those affected by the attacks, allowing communities to come together and advocate against the rise in anti-Semitism.
International participation has seen remarkable growth this year, with churches from Latin America, Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and India joining the movement. Last year, over 1,350 organizations from North America and ten other countries participated, planting over 1.5 million flags at local events and community gatherings. If the Fellowship meets its ambitious goal for this year, the total will double to over 3 million flags worldwide.
Yael Eckstein, the President and Global CEO of The Fellowship, reflected on the significance of the campaign: "What began as a memorial initiative has become a global movement of light, unity, and resilience. Flags of Fellowship is a powerful symbol of hope and strength, providing individuals a meaningful way to stand with Israel and address the alarming increase of anti-Semitism."
Churches, synagogues, universities, and organizations that wish to participate are encouraged to register for the campaign by this year's deadline of September 13. The flags planted during these remembrance events will stand as a testament to unity and determination against hostility.
Since the Hamas attacks in October 2023, The Fellowship has committed over half a billion dollars to support ongoing emergency needs in Israel. Their efforts focus on providing essential resources such as food, water, and equipment for first responders, along with aliyah support for those making their way to Israel.
The campaign serves as a critical reminder of the importance of solidarity within communities, fostering support and care for those affected by turmoil. By participating in the Flags of Fellowship, individuals and organizations can play an active role in combating anti-Semitism and advocating for peace and understanding.
