Discovering ‘TRACES’ – A Journey Through Craft and Sports
Tokyo is set to host a remarkable solo exhibition titled
“TRACES” featuring
Lev Rosenbush, a New York-based artist known for his unique fusion of sports culture and traditional craftsmanship. This exhibition will take place at the
TOKYO CRAFT ROOM, located within the
HAMACHO HOTEL, as well as various satellite venues in
Nihonbashi Hamacho from
July 3 to July 12, 2026. Admission to the exhibition is free, allowing art enthusiasts of all backgrounds to immerse themselves in this creative experience.
Exhibition Overview
The exhibition will be open daily from
12 PM to 7 PM, providing an excellent opportunity for visitors to explore the intricate link between sports and ceramics through Rosenbush's works without the need for advanced reservations.
Rosenbush’s journey as an artist reflects an intriguing narrative: once an aspiring professional soccer player, he channeled his passion for sports into the craft of ceramics. His latest creations come from an extended residency in
Shiga, one of Japan's most renowned pottery regions, where he explored local materials and techniques. This exhibition serves as a platform to showcase new works, crafted in this unique environment, inviting attendees to witness the intersection of athletic energy with the tranquility of ceramics.
Crafting a Narrative of Connection
“TRACES” is more than an art exhibition; it’s an exploration of the stories and experiences that shape our understanding of craftsmanship and culture. Through Rosenbush’s lens, the audience can appreciate how movements and emotions from sports translate into tangible artistic expressions. The distinctive aesthetics of
wabi-sabi—the Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection—will resonate deeply as visitors navigate the space lined with Rosenbush's ceramic artistry.
Lev Rosenbush: An Artist's Profile
Lev Rosenbush, at just
25, has already made a name for himself within the art community. Born in Brooklyn, NYC, he grew up immersed in soccer and ceramics, which have become the cornerstone of his artistic identity. His journey began at
Kenyon College where he played college soccer before pursuing a degree in ceramic design at
Central Saint Martins in London. After four years in the UK, he returned to New York and launched his brand,
Studio Halftime, blending his dual passions into a captivating narrative.
In this exhibition, he invites us to reflect on the
feverish excitement of sports juxtaposed against moments of stillness, captured beautifully in each piece on display. He aims to connect with his audience not just through aesthetics, but through the emotions and memories these pieces evoke.
The Role of TOKYO CRAFT ROOM
Located in the heart of Tokyo,
TOKYO CRAFT ROOM serves as a dynamic platform for local and international designers to explore Japan's rich craft heritage. Through research and collaboration, the venue offers a unique opportunity to bridge traditional techniques with contemporary design, generating innovative products that reflect both local and global narratives. As part of this initiative, the exhibition will highlight how craftsmanship can speak to broader cultural themes, drawing attention to the significance of community in artistry.
The exhibition will showcase a continually evolving collection of works that serve as a testament to the incredible potential of craftsmanship when combined with personal narrative and cultural context. Visitors will have the chance to witness how these art pieces are not only visual spectacles but also harbingers of connection and conversation.
A Transformative Experience at HAMACHO HOTEL
The
HAMACHO HOTEL, as the main venue for this exhibition, is part of a broader urban revitalization project led by
Yasuda Real Estate Co., Ltd. This initiative aims to create a cityscape where community, craftsmanship, and contemporary lifestyle converge. As well as offering a unique hospitality experience, the hotel acts as a cultural beacon in the Nihonbashi Hamacho area, further contributing to the local community.
With each art item displayed, we witness the ongoing dialogue between past traditions and future innovations, rendered through each work of art. The exhibition will not only showcase Rosenbush's installations but will also reflect the thriving cultural landscape of Nihonbashi—an intersection of history, modernism, and the innate beauty of craftsmanship.
