Recently, a new system called "Jinja Navita" was installed at the Dewa Sanzan Shrine in Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture. This initiative, spearheaded by Hyojito Co., Ltd.—a leading advertising company based in Nagoya—is set to enhance the experience of various visitors coming to one of Japan's most revered sites of mountain worship and Shugendo faith.

Dewa Sanzan, consisting of the sacred peaks of Haguro-san, Gassan, and Yudonosan, has a rich history that spans over 1,400 years. It serves as a significant spiritual center, drawing thousands of pilgrims and tourists alike. The Jinja Navita aims to provide an intuitive navigation experience, displaying essential information about shrine culture and proper etiquette for visitors.

The digital installation features a large 49-inch touchscreen, which allows users to access information in both Japanese and English, including the shrine's history, information on festivals, guidelines for worship, and a map of the grounds. Positioned beside the temizuya (purification fountain), the Jinja Navita serves as a beacon for those seeking knowledge about their surroundings and Japanese traditions.

Hyojito's President, Takahiro Tokubo, emphasized the company’s commitment to utilizing advanced technology for social good. The aim is not only to foster a deeper understanding of Japanese culture among visitors but also to ease the burden on shrine staff who have struggled with language barriers when providing assistance to international guests.

The Jinja Navita measures 2,100mm in height, 1,754mm in width, and 375mm in depth and includes illuminated advertising space for local businesses, helping to create a symbiotic relationship between the shrine and the surrounding community. This digital signage is operational daily from 8 AM to 5 PM, offering a comprehensive guide to both local visitors and international travelers.

Moreover, the shrine’s Chief Priest, Kensuke Yoshizumi, expressed gratitude for the installation, noting how the digital signage has been specifically designed to harmonize with the natural landscape and the traditional architecture of the shrine. He believes that the new system will be invaluable in offering coherent and organized information that enhances visitors' experiences.
