Discover Bauhaus Legacy at TECTA's Exhibition in Kyoto

TECTA MIT KYOTO - An Exhibition Celebrating Bauhaus Design

From September 13 to November 30, 2025, the TECTA MIT KYOTO exhibition will unfold at the Actus Kyoto Store, nestled in COCON Karasuma, Kyoto. This unique event aims to bridge the design philosophies of the legendary Bauhaus movement with modern interpretations through the lens of TECTA, a brand deeply rooted in the Bauhaus ethos.

Dive into the World of Bauhaus

The Bauhaus school, active from 1919 to 1933, played a pivotal role in shaping contemporary architectural and industrial design. Though its existence was brief, its influence is felt worldwide even today. TECTA, established in 1972, has dedicated itself to reviving and honoring Bauhaus masterpieces. Notable figures such as Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Marcel Breuer have had their iconic designs expertly reproduced by TECTA.

Visitors can expect to view 13 original Bauhaus pieces alongside modern TECTA interpretations inspired by the foundational principles of this esteemed design movement. Participants will not only see these masterpieces but also interact with them to experience their profound functionality and aesthetic appeal firsthand.

A Collaboration with Jean Prouvé

In addition to showcasing TECTA's collection, the exhibition will highlight the collaborative history between TECTA's founder Axel Blohheiser and the revolutionary architect and designer, Jean Prouvé. Prouvé's innovative design principles are seamlessly woven into TECTA's offerings, creating a rich dialogue between the past and present. Visitors will find unique displays, including sketches by Prouvé for an easy chair that ultimately inspired TECTA's D80 Chair.

Discover Modern Innovations

The event will serve as the first public showcase for TECTA's latest products, introduced earlier in the year at the globally renowned Milano Salone. Among them is the M22 Table, designed by Katrin Greiling, which evolves the classic TECTA design by integrating contemporary aesthetics while maintaining functionality. This table is a testament to TECTA's commitment to sustainable design and innovation.

Iconic Designs on Display

Some of TECTA's most beloved pieces you will encounter include:
  • - F51 Arm Chair by Walter Gropius, a striking cantilever design that emphasizes simplicity and elegance.
  • - D42 Arm Chair by Mies van der Rohe, celebrated for its minimalist and modernist qualities.
  • - D4 Folding Chair by Marcel Breuer, which creatively blends form and function into a versatile seating option.

Each piece represents a rich history of craftsmanship that harkens back to the Bauhaus era, offering a tangible connection to pioneering design philosophies.

Engaging Merchandise and More

Alongside the exhibition, visitors can purchase exclusive event merchandise, including stylish tote bags featuring TECTA's cat motif, mugs adorned with the TECTA logo, and unique stickers inspired by TECTA's furniture collection.

The TECTA MIT KYOTO exhibition promises an immersive experience that not only celebrates the legacy of Bauhaus but also invites visitors to engage with its timeless principles in a modern context.
