Zentiva's 2025 Sustainability Report
On March 17, 2026, Zentiva unveiled its 2025 Sustainability Report, showcasing a year of significant progress in public health, sustainable natural resource usage, and corporate responsibility. The report emphasizes that business growth can coexist with environmental responsibility. In fact, Zentiva managed to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 10% within its operational activities while simultaneously increasing net sales and boosting EBITDA.
This year's sustainability initiative was underscored by Science Based Targets (SBTi) that confirmed both short-term and long-term objectives. By 2034, Zentiva aims to cut Scope 1, 2, and 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 63% and reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Key Achievements of 2025
- - Renewable Energy Use: An impressive 83% of the electricity used in Zentiva's facilities comes from renewable sources; in its EU plants, this figure rises to 100%.
- - Water Recycling: The volume of water recycled and reused has nearly doubled from 2021 to 2025, showcasing Zentiva's commitment to sustainable resource management.
- - Waste Management: In a remarkable accomplishment, 47% of waste was either reused, recycled, or repurposed instead of going to landfills.
- - Biodiversity Initiatives: Through various biodiversity projects, Zentiva has planted over 130,000 trees for forest restoration and has supported 3.5 million bees, enhancing its role in environmental conservation.
- - Community Projects: Over 120 projects aimed at supporting local communities have been implemented across Europe and India under the initiative #WeHelpOthers.
Zentiva's sustainability efforts have not gone unnoticed. The company received a gold medal from EcoVadis, placing its sustainability program in the top 2% of the pharmaceutical industry. Additionally, Zentiva was awarded the “Transparency Award 2025” by the EUPD Group in recognition of its accountability and transparency in sustainability reporting.
Steffen Saltofte, CEO of Zentiva, stated, “As a leading European manufacturer of off-patent medications, we carry the responsibility of supporting public health systems while simultaneously reducing our environmental impact. Millions rely on the availability and affordability of the medicines we produce and supply daily.” He further added that the report reflects how their day-to-day actions contribute to healthier communities and a healthier planet. “Environmental protection and human welfare are interconnected. Sustainability is a continual commitment that we must fulfill every day in all our endeavors,” stated Ines Windisch, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability.
Zentiva plays a crucial role in ensuring the constant supply of high-quality and affordable medications to European residents, accounting for approximately 70% of all dispensed drugs while representing only 19% of total pharmaceutical spending, making it vital for the accessibility and sustainability of public health systems (IQVIA, 2024).
