On July 14, 2026, renowned barista Tetsu Kasuya and FamilyMart will launch their masterpiece, the "Premium Mocha," available in approximately 16,400 locations across the nation. This exceptional coffee is crafted from 100% G1 grade mocha beans from the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe region, with a rarity that accounts for less than 1% of total production. After a development process lasting nearly two years, this new arrival promises a unique coffee experience that aligns with PHILOCOFFEA's mission of delivering extraordinary coffee moments to all.
A Special Coffee Experience
The concept behind the Premium Mocha and its iced variant has been a product of rigorous experimentation. The unique mocha beans, known for their vibrant floral aroma and fruity acidity, are roasted using a high-temperature, short-time method that maximizes the beans' inherent characteristics. Furthermore, special attention has been given to the brewing process, utilizing approximately 1.3 times the usual quantity of beans and extending the steeping period by about 1.1 times. This meticulous approach to bean selection, roasting, and extraction reflects Kasuya's championship-winning methods, resulting in a "specialty coffee experience, even at a convenience store."
Development of New Coffee Machines
Since joining the FamilyMart coffee development team in February 2020, Kasuya has also contributed significantly to the design of a new coffee machine, marking a seven-year gap since the last model. This new machine was installed in stores nationwide in June 2026 and features an innovative grinding adjustment mechanism tailored for different coffee types. It incorporates elements from Kasuya's hand-dripping theories to enhance the pouring technique and brewing program, ensuring a consistent, high-quality taste comparable to specialty coffee shops.
Supporting Ethiopian Communities
Both the Premium Mocha and its iced version are part of a fundraising campaign aimed at improving educational conditions for children in Ethiopia, which runs from June 30 to September 14, 2026. For every cup purchased, FamilyMart will donate 1 yen, channeling funds back into coffee-producing communities.
Kasuya's Vision
Kasuya emphasizes that since the beginning of this journey in 2020, the goal has been to create "the world's most delicious convenience store coffee.” He believes specialty coffee should not be confined to cafes alone; instead, it should be accessible at everyday locations where people regularly stop.

The Premium Mocha will be available in several sizes: S: ¥213 (tax included ¥230), M: ¥278 (tax included ¥300), L: ¥334 (tax included ¥360), LL: ¥389 (tax included ¥420). Each cup boasts a remarkable balance of floral aroma and fruity acidity typical of the esteemed G1 mocha beans.
Similarly, the iced variant will be available at prices ranging from S: ¥223 (tax included ¥240) to LL: ¥436 (tax included ¥470). The Premium blend promises the same exceptional sensory experience as its hot counterpart.
