A Promising International Collaboration in Mutsu City
In a groundbreaking move to enhance regional development, Mutsu City in Aomori Prefecture welcomes Mu Yuchen, an international talent and graduate of the National University of Singapore. Starting from July 15, 2025, he will serve as a community revitalization entrepreneur for Shimo-Kita Tourism through a collaborative effort aimed at regional revitalization. Yuchen’s journey, which includes international experience at a United Nations organization in Kenya, is a testament to the unique opportunities created through educational exchange programs like the Aomori Global Advance Project (AGAP).
A Personal Connection to the Region
Yuchen first visited Mutsu City in 2023 as part of the AGAP program, and he was struck by the warmth of the local people and the area's breathtaking natural scenery. This memorable experience left a deep impression on him, fostering a strong desire to contribute to the community in the future. With a mission to “root in the community while challenging the world,” Yuchen has now returned to Mutsu City to realize his goals.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to Mutsu City. While I feel anxious, I hope to transform my experiences into the region's strength in a place that accepted me for who I am," expressed Yuchen during his introduction meeting. His passion for enriching the local culture through his global perspective holds promise for the city’s future.
A Vision for Global Networking
The initiative, which marks the first implementation of the community revitalization entrepreneur system in Mutsu City, aims to fortify the connection between the local area and the world. Under the collaboration of the Mutsu City Council, the Mutsu Shimokita Future Creation Council, and Japan Navi, this position will see Yuchen actively participating in expanding Mutsu's reach and appeal internationally.
“Mutsu City hopes to enhance inbound tourism and address multilingual communication challenges through your expertise,” noted Daijiro Ito, the head of Shimo-Kita Tourism, expressing confidence in Yuchen's potential contributions.
Fostering Cultural Exchange
Aside from tourism strategies, Yuchen will engage in promoting multicultural exchanges anchored on ‘human connections’. His roles will include crafting tourism information in English and Chinese, creating experiential content, and developing public relations strategies that leverage the region's unique stories. This multifaceted approach aims to restore the local identity while attracting visitors from around the world.
Harnessing the Power of AGAP
The Aomori Global Advance Project stands as a beacon for regional branding enhancement, promoting product exports, and attracting inbound tourism. Through AGAP, meaningful interactions between host families and official stakeholders showcase how personal relationships can facilitate strong ties aimed at cultivating the next generation of leaders.
"This heartfelt exchange is pivotal in nurturing ‘human circulation,’ a concept embodying connectivity that fosters future community leaders," stated representatives from Japan Navi Group, emphasizing their commitment to replicating this model nationwide in collaboration with various municipalities.
