International Congress of Basic Sciences 2026

On August 10, 2026, Beijing hosted the International Congress of Basic Sciences (ICBS), attracting more than 1,000 participants, including scientists, researchers, and emerging scholars from both China and overseas. The event aims to advance basic scientific research for the benefit of humanity and encompasses a two-week agenda packed with activities and sessions.

Under the theme "Advancing Fundamental Sciences for the Benefit of Humanity," the congress will feature over 500 scientific sessions that cover all aspects and interdisciplinary fields of fundamental sciences. Key areas of discussion include current research domains such as generative large model reasoning, computer vision, human-computer interaction, and quantum information.

Leading international scientists are scheduled to give lectures and present awards, including the prestigious Frontiers of Science Award, highlighting the latest breakthroughs in fundamental science. These presentations are designed to foster collaborative innovation across various scientific fields.

The congress will also host several high-profile scientific dialogues and activities aimed at encouraging youth involvement in science and cultural exchanges. Noteworthy events include the "Mathematics Night," "Physics Night," and "Engineering Night," where Fields Medal and Turing Award winners come together to discuss contemporary trends in cutting-edge research.

A newly established initiative, the "Women Scientists Forum," will invite outstanding female researchers who will share their career experiences, discussing both the opportunities and challenges within the field. This aims to inspire aspiring female scientists to break new ground in their research endeavors.

Additionally, the congress includes the "Basic Science and AI Forum," which will facilitate in-depth discussions about key bottlenecks and potential pathways for future breakthroughs in AI theory, as well as industry trends.

An exciting highlight of the congress is the "Tsinghua Day," where prominent mathematicians and physicists are invited to Tsinghua University to engage with students, encouraging the pursuit of fundamental sciences and exploration of the unknown.

An engaging aspect of the event is the "Explore Huairou" tour, which invites international experts to experience Huairou Science City, the International Conference Resort, the Great Wall at Mutianyu, and the Great Wall International Animation Valley. This tour offers international scientists direct insights into the innovative capacities and research ecosystem of this prestigious national scientific center, along with the ecological allure and cultural heritage of Huairou.

Through these activities, the congress will showcase how science and technology drive rural revitalization, highlighting Huairou's achievements and its status as a world-class strategic demonstration zone for the integration of science and technology.

This is the fourth time that the ICBS has been held in Beijing, supported by the Beijing Municipal Government, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Association for Science and Technology, and the International Consortium of Chinese Mathematicians. With a robust agenda planned, the congress not only serves as a platform for scientific advancement but also strengthens international collaboration among researchers across the globe.
