Durocher remarked, “Every study shows the same thing...when the alternative costs three times more, they’re stuck buying fast fashion and feeling guilty about it.”

With proms often commanding budgets between $600 and $1,139 as reported by Visa, prom dresses can consume a lion's share of that expenditure. Traditional designer gowns typically retail for anywhere between $800 and $2,000. Consequently, many young shoppers, feeling the weight of their financial constraints, lean toward lower-cost, lower-quality options that tend to be worn just once.

Jovani’s latest collection, which features over 1,000 designs across various silhouettes and sizes, employs the same talented New York design team and meticulous craftsmanship as their higher-end pieces. This under-$500 collection tries to debunk the myth that a quality garment automatically equates to a hefty price tag. Durocher elaborated, “Fast fashion became successful because it solved a real problem—it was affordable. But it created bigger problems. We’re saying you don’t have to choose between your values and your budget anymore.”

The timing couldn't be better for this shift in strategy. The fashion landscape is transforming rapidly, with many Gen Z consumers expressing a desire to invest in higher-quality apparel. As the secondhand clothing market is expected to soar to $64 billion by 2029, outpacing the rapid growth of fast fashion, brands are noticing a significant trend toward sustainability and conscientious purchasing.
