e-dash Continues Partnership with Nara to Promote Carbon Neutrality Efforts

e-dash's Commitment to Carbon Neutrality

e-dash Inc., a Tokyo-based firm led by CEO Toma Yamazaki, has renewed its partnership with Nara Prefecture for the 'Mahoroba Zero Carbon Challenge - CO₂ Visualization' program. This initiative aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region by helping them visualize and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

For the coming year, e-dash will not only conduct carbon management seminars specifically tailored to SMEs but will also provide assistance to 30 selected companies in understanding and reducing their CO₂ emissions through the use of their innovative platform, e-dash.

Background of the Initiative

Nara Prefecture has set an ambitious goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The strategy emphasizes utilizing renewable energies and forest resources efficiently to build a sustainable, decarbonized society. Despite the desire among many SMEs to engage in carbon reduction efforts, they often face hurdles such as lack of knowledge about effective strategies, uncertainty regarding outcomes, and financial constraints. Consequently, only a few businesses have successfully implemented concrete measures. In light of these challenges, Nara's government has reinitiated the 'Mahoroba Zero Carbon Challenge' to support local enterprises in tracking and managing their emissions.

e-dash stands as a crucial ally in this endeavor, offering comprehensive support that extends from visualization of CO₂ emissions to the formulation of reduction plans. The firm will often collaborate with regional financial institutions and various partner organizations to ensure even the most diverse sectors can pursue decarbonization.

Overview of Support Offerings

e-dash will provide Nara's SMEs with:
1. CO₂ Visualization System: The e-dash platform, a cloud-based service, will be provided free of charge, enabling companies to calculate and set targets for their Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Participants will receive training on the essential knowledge needed for carbon accounting, along with tailored reduction strategies such as energy saving, renewable energy sourcing, and utilization of carbon credits.
2. Regular Seminars and Workshops: Starting in August, e-dash will host a series of seminars that not only discuss the latest regulations and trends but also provide real-world examples of businesses successfully implementing carbon management strategies and attaining SBT certifications.

In addition, a tailored 'Decarbonization Study Group' will be organized for participant companies that dive into the significance of carbon reduction, goal setting aligned with Science-Based Targets (SBT), viable cost-saving strategies, and current trends like Carbon Footprint (CFP) evaluation. All services will be provided free of charge until the end of February 2027.

This robust program aims to accelerate the decarbonization agenda among local firms, contributing significantly to Nara's vision of achieving carbon neutrality.

How to Participate

Businesses interested in joining the program will need to first attend an online briefing session dedicated to explaining the initiative and the e-dash services, which is also free.

Success Stories from Last Year

One notable participant from last year’s cohort was Iwasaki Kogyo Co., a longstanding plastic manufacturer that took a proactive approach to achieve SBT certification, reflecting the 'mottainai' spirit of waste reduction. For more details, visit this link.

Nara Prefectural Support Program Overview

As stated by Kazuki Oe, the head of the Decarbonization Promotion Division in Nara, this program is designed not only to assist businesses in meeting compliance standards but also to enhance their operational efficiency, foster trust with partners, and ultimately boost their corporate value. Understanding one’s greenhouse gas emissions is the crucial first step towards meaningful action.

With e-dash's continuous support, the region's SMEs can navigate the complexities of decarbonization and seize the new business opportunities it brings. The initiative aims to empower these businesses, thus leading to a sustainable future for the entire Nara Prefecture.
