International Kogyo Collaborates with Power X to Deploy Battery-Optimized EV Bus Charging Systems

International Kogyo and Power X Collaboration

International Kogyo Co., Ltd., a key player in the transportation industry, has partnered with Power X Inc., based in Tokyo, to develop an innovative charging solution designed specifically for electric buses (EVs). This initiative aims to utilize battery technology for a more sustainable public transport system across Japan.

A Step Forward in EV Adoption

As part of this collaboration, the first site equipped with the battery-powered ultra-fast EV charger, the "Hypercharger Pro," has been established at the Kogyo Bus Saitama Higashi Depot in Saitama City. This marks a significant milestone as it is the first charger designated for exclusive use by EV buses in the country. With this deployment, International Kogyo is taking a proactive approach to promote the electrification and decarbonization of public transport, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The introduction of the battery-electric vehicle (BEV) bus model "Erga EV" by International Kogyo represents the first such unit to operate within Saitama Prefecture. The Erga EV will soon commence operations on various routes in Saitama City, thus enhancing the region's eco-friendly transportation options.

Enhanced Charging Efficiency

The "Hypercharger Pro" is equipped with a high-output capacity that can deliver up to 150 kW during boost mode for short bursts and a continuous output of 120 kW. This system not only promotes efficient charging but also helps mitigate peak electric consumption at the depot, which contributes to lower electricity costs.

Additionally, this charging station leverages excess power generated from a rooftop solar power system, with a rated output of 99 kW, on the depot premises. By harnessing renewable energy, the initiative aims to further decrease carbon emissions associated with the operation of these electric buses.

Sharing Knowledge and Expanding Horizons

International Kogyo is not just stopping at implementing technology in its operations; it also seeks to share insights gained from the Saitama Higashi Depot with other domestic bus operators. Acting as a sales partner for Power X, the company will promote the adoption of both the "Hypercharger" and "Hypercharger Pro" systems among other local transport players, facilitating a more comprehensive transition to electric mobility.

On the other side, Power X is set to develop the charging systems further using operational data and feedback from bus operators, evolving their energy management solutions to better accommodate future EV bus implementations. A notable feature in development for the "Hypercharger Pro" is its autonomous operation capability, ensuring that in the event of a power outage, the charger can still be utilized to power vehicles and serve as an emergency backup for the depot.
