BlueHuki CEO Advocates for Military Spouse Employment on Capitol Hill

Advocacy for Military Spouses

In an impactful visit to Capitol Hill, Dr. Heather Pressler, the founder and CEO of BlueHuki, championed crucial legislation aimed at bolstering employment opportunities and support for military spouses. Alongside the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), Dr. Pressler engaged with congressional representatives, discussing the pressing need for policies that recognize the unique challenges faced by military families.

Military spouses often deal with substantial employment hurdles due to frequent relocations tied to service commitments, in addition to balancing caregiving responsibilities. Recent statistics highlight the alarming unemployment rate among military spouses, reported at over 23% by Blue Star Families, underscoring the urgent necessity for supportive legislative measures.

A core focus of Dr. Pressler's advocacy was the dual support of two legislative proposals, H.R.2033 and H.R.6231, which aim to incentivize employers with tax benefits for hiring military spouses. These legislative initiatives are poised to create a pathway for military spouses to secure stable and rewarding employment, reducing the barriers posed by their unique lifestyle.

Moreover, Dr. Pressler joined a coalition of military and veteran service organizations in urging Congress to broaden the reach of the Child Care in Your Home (CCYH) pilot program. The initiative seeks to extend childcare support by including the Federal Au Pair Program, a crucial step in addressing common childcare shortages that beset many military households. Expanding access to quality childcare services would enable military spouses to manage their careers effectively while ensuring that service members remain mission-ready during critical deployments or relocations.

Dr. Pressler voiced the necessity of these actions, saying, "Military spouses are incredibly talented professionals, but many face systemic barriers to maintaining stable careers due to perceived frequent moves and childcare challenges. Advocating on Capitol Hill is one way that we can help ensure policies reflect the realities of military family life. Supporting military spouses isn't just the right thing to do; it strengthens our businesses, communities, and national readiness."

Dr. Pressler's commitment to advocating for military spouses has not gone unnoticed. She was recognized as the first-ever Mighty MilSpouse of the Year at the 2025 Military Influencer Conference, an honor that highlights her leadership, advocacy, and innovative approach to address employment challenges within the military spouse community.

About BlueHuki, it was founded in 2022 with a mission deeply rooted in creating meaningful career opportunities for military spouses.
