Jacobs Selected to Transform Transportation Infrastructure in New York State

In a significant move to enhance regional transportation infrastructure, Jacobs has been awarded a contract by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to provide comprehensive design services specifically targeting projects in the lower Hudson Valley region. This ambitious initiative underscores the company's commitment to improving transportation safety and connectivity through crucial upgrades in highway and bridge systems.

The scope of Jacobs’ work will encompass essential tasks such as bridge replacement and rehabilitation, along with extensive highway reconstruction and rehabilitation projects. This extensive undertaking aims to elevate safety standards and enhance the overall connectivity of the areas situated north of New York City.

Jacobs will not only focus on design solutions but will also work closely with NYSDOT's Region 8, which includes the counties of Westchester, Ulster, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, and Columbia. The team will analyze nearly 6,000 miles of state highways and over 1,000 bridges to identify and address pressing safety concerns. This analysis will involve gathering traffic data, conducting environmental assessments, and fostering the implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems designed to optimize traffic management, minimize congestion, and improve experiences for connected vehicles.

Katus Watson, Jacobs’ Executive Vice President, shared insights on the project’s significance, stating, "Transportation projects support the economic vitality of communities, facilitating smoother commutes, better connectivity for people, and improved movement of goods and services. Making roads safer and reducing commute times is beneficial for everyone who lives in and navigates this historic, dynamic, and rapidly growing region."

Moreover, this project will serve multiple counties that all lie adjacent to the iconic Hudson River, New York's premier waterway. Additionally, it encompasses historically rich areas, including the United States Military Academy at West Point, where Jacobs is also contributing to the establishment of a new Cyber and Engineering Academic Center, expected to be completed this year.

Renowned for its expertise in transportation, Jacobs holds the distinction of being ranked No. 2 in the field by Engineering News-Record. The firm assists clients in efficiently moving people, goods, and freight through diverse methods such as air, sea, and underground routes. Jacobs offers a comprehensive suite of services that aids in the planning, development, financing, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of innovative transportation infrastructure projects that create connections among communities worldwide.

Some of the notable projects associated with Jacobs include the Queensferry Crossing in Scotland, which represents the largest infrastructure effort of a generation, and pivotal transformations to the busiest commuter railroad in the United States through the Grand Central Madison project in New York City.

At Jacobs, the vision extends beyond contemporary challenges—they aim to reinvent the future. With an impressive annual revenue of approximately $12 billion and a workforce of nearly 45,000, Jacobs is engaged in delivering end-to-end services across various sectors such as advanced manufacturing, urban development, energy, environmental solutions, life sciences, transportation, and water management.
