The National Resident Matching Program Enhances Leadership

On July 1, 2025, the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) will celebrate the induction of five new distinguished members to its Board of Directors. This momentous occasion coincides with the appointment of Natasha N. Bray, DO, MSEd, as the new Chair of the Board, making her the first osteopathic physician to reach this pivotal role.

Dr. Bray shared her enthusiasm, stating, "It is a tremendous honor to become NRMP Board Chair at such a pivotal time in medical education." She is committed to supporting initiatives that benefit aspiring physicians while ensuring that the matching process remains transparent and efficient.

She takes over the position from Dr. Deborah S. Clements, MD—an esteemed leader who has served the NRMP with dedication since July 1, 2023. Dr. Clements expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, highlighting the significant strides made in stakeholder engagement, data transparency, and community growth during her tenure.

The incoming members of the NRMP Board of Directors bring an impressive array of expertise from various facets of medical education and training:

4. Omari Baines-Waiz, DO, MBA - Currently completing her residency in psychiatry at Atrium Health in Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Baines-Waiz focuses on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), reflecting her commitment to improving access to healthcare.

5. Mytien Nguyen, MS - An MD/PhD student specializing in immunobiology at Yale School of Medicine, Ms. Nguyen has advocated for health equity and played significant roles in national committees focusing on diversity and inclusion in medicine.

NRMP President and CEO, Donna L. Lamb, emphasized the value these five individuals will add as the organization looks to further its mission moving forward. The NRMP Board comprises 20 members, which includes program directors, medical school deans, and resident physicians, all committed to ensuring the best outcomes for medical students.

In her closing remarks, Dr. Clements expressed confidence in Dr. Bray and the new members, saying, "I am confident that Dr. Bray will build on these accomplishments and guide the NRMP with strength and integrity."

The NRMP, established in 1952, plays a critical role in the residency matching process in the U.S., with more than 50,000 registrants participating annually. As the organization prepares to welcome its new leadership team, the focus remains on cultivating a supportive environment for future medical professionals while advancing essential initiatives in medical education.
