The Yamaha Music Foundation, located in Meguro, Tokyo, under the leadership of Takumi Nakada, is set to begin accepting applications for its 2026 Music Scholarship Program on November 17, 2025. This initiative, integral to promoting musical culture, has been in place since 1999, offering support to students eager to pursue specialized music education both domestically and internationally.
Overview of the Music Scholarship Program
The primary aim of the Yamaha Music Scholarship is to support individuals who demonstrate outstanding musical abilities and show promise for success in the music industry. Candidates must also display a sincere commitment to music, characterized by clear goals in their musical pursuits.
Application Period
The application window opens on November 17, 2025, at 11:00 and will close on December 5, 2025, at 17:00. Applicants can submit their entries online during this period.
Scholarship Benefits
Successful applicants will receive financial support amounting to 200,000 yen per month, which does not require repayment. This financial support will be provided for a maximum of two years, starting in April 2026. Additionally, with the cooperation of Yamaha Corporation, recipients may be offered opportunities for performances, attending lessons, and other personalized educational experiences based on their individual situations.
Number of Scholarships Available
The program anticipates accepting approximately five to six new scholarship recipients.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for consideration, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Be between 13 and 25 years old (as of April 1, 2026).
2. Hold Japanese nationality and be studying at an educational institution either in Japan or abroad, or have foreign nationality and be studying at a Japanese educational institution (including those who plan to enroll).
3. Specializing in instrumental or vocal performance.
4. Have a defined learning goal involving participation in courses, study abroad, seminars, and competitions at educational institutions, both domestic and foreign.
5. Cannot concurrently receive other music-related scholarships (both grants and loans), although combinations with non-music scholarships are permitted.
6. Past recipients of the Music Scholarship or Study Abroad Scholarship are not eligible to apply again.
