Unveiling OptiTrack's Wired CinePuck at Inter BEE 2025
In an exciting development for the realm of virtual production, OptiTrack® is set to showcase its latest camera tracking tool, the
Wired CinePuck, at the Inter BEE 2025 event. The event is scheduled to take place from November 19 to 21, 2025, at Makuhari Messe, with the demonstration being held at Spice's booth, located in Hall 4, Stand 4409.
Overview of OptiTrack's Virtual Production
OptiTrack® operates by utilizing infrared cameras strategically placed around the shooting area. This innovative system tracks rigid markers attached to the camera, known as the
Wired CinePuck, employing an outside-in camera tracking methodology. By increasing the number of infrared cameras in the vicinity, production teams can expand the tracking area significantly. Notably, the Wired CinePuck can deliver accuracy of less than 1 mm even in expansive studio spaces measuring 20 meters per side.
Features of the Wired CinePuck
The Wired CinePuck is equipped with eleven self-illuminating markers that jointly offer precise positional data, while an internal Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor provides critical rotation data for the camera tracking process. Notably, the device connects via Ethernet, allowing for Power over Ethernet (PoE) for both power supply and data communication. This innovative technology not only minimizes jitter, which commonly plagues optical tracking systems, but also ensures a seamless tracking experience.
Unrivaled Cost Performance
The
OptiTrack® system brings unparalleled cost-effective solutions to the table. Within the tracked area established by OptiTrack’s infrared cameras, multiple Wired CinePucks can be utilized for multi-camera shoots. By simply integrating additional lens encoders, teams can easily increase the number of filming cameras. This capability offers significant cost advantages compared to rival camera tracking systems as the scale of the setup increases, making OptiTrack a leader in the industry.
Marker-Free and Flexible Setup
One standout feature of the Wired CinePuck system is its marker-free installation. There’s no need to apply reflective markers to ceilings or floors, making it an ideal solution for broadcasting studios where marker application has previously posed challenges. Furthermore, this flexibility is beneficial for virtual production studios that want to freely configure ceiling LEDs for in-camera visual effects.
Talent and Object Tracking Without Additional Equipment
The system also allows for comprehensive tracking capabilities. By attaching reflective markers to both people and objects, teams can achieve simultaneous camera tracking and talent/object tracking without the need for supplementary devices.
