This prestigious accolade serves to highlight young professionals who are instrumental in driving forward innovations in waste management and recycling.

Haraf’s journey in the waste industry began at a young age, heavily influenced by his father’s commitment to service in the field. Over the course of 14 years, he has taken on a diverse array of roles ranging from transfer station laborer to operations manager, and eventually, sales director. Today, he stands as the Market Area Vice President for New York City, where he combines his extensive industry knowledge with an innovative approach to service delivery.

One of Haraf's standout achievements is his leadership at IWS's subsidiary, Action Carting, particularly as they adapt to New York City's new Commercial Waste Zones program. This transformation is not merely administrative; it impacts over 400 employees and caters to more than 13,000 customers in a highly competitive and complex market. With safety being his central focus, Haraf pivots the operational framework of IWS/Action, ensuring compliance with various new city regulations and preparing employees and clients for the implications of the CWZ program.

Upon receiving his award, Haraf expressed profound gratitude, stating, “I am honored to be recognized among such a talented group of industry leaders. I am also thankful to IWS for this incredible opportunity to lead a dedicated team focused on helping our customers navigate a once-in-a-generation transformation in New York City's waste management system.” He emphasized the firm’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions, allowing businesses of all sizes to thrive amidst the changes.

Michael DiBella, CEO of Interstate Waste Services, conveyed his pride in Haraf's achievements, emphasizing how his leadership and dedication to service have made him an indispensable asset to IWS and the communities it serves. Haraf's story is a testament to the importance of mentoring in the waste industry, as he benefitted greatly from his experiences with seasoned experts who instilled in him a strong foundation of knowledge paired with a commitment to continuous improvement.

The Waste360 40 Under 40 program is a commendation that acknowledges the impactful contributions of young professionals under 40 years of age in the waste management sector.
