Free Webinar on Well-Being Management
In response to increasing workforce challenges due to Japan's declining labor population,
UPDATER Inc. will host a complimentary online webinar titled
Supporting Employees’ “Ability to Continue Working” on
October 15, 2025, from
3:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Registration opens today, September 26.
The upcoming webinar addresses the critical issue of employee retention amid Japan's current hiring difficulties. With an ever-decreasing labor force, particularly among the working-age population (ages 15-64), organizations must adapt their strategies to prevent talent loss and boost productivity. As reported, the number of those who have been unable to work due to caregiving or mental health struggles is on the rise. In anticipation of significant legislative changes set to take effect in 2025, companies must develop effective systems and support frameworks to help employees remain in the workforce.
Background to the Webinar
Japan is facing a substantial decline in its workforce due to aging demographics and a low birth rate, making talent acquisition and retention the foremost challenge for businesses. Projections indicate that the working population will drop to below
70 million by
2032, a decrease of over
5 million from
2020. This situation has left
77% of employers in Japan reporting difficulty in finding suitable candidates, significantly above the global average.
The pressing issue of caregiving-related employment breakages has also garnered attention. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, nearly
106,000 individuals left their jobs in the past year due to caregiving responsibilities. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare further estimates that by
2025, the required number of nursing care professionals will reach approximately
2.43 million, indicating a worsening trend in caregiver staffing and retention problems.
Mental health issues are another leading cause of workforce absenteeism. Long-term leaves resulting from depression or adjustment disorders not only diminish productivity but also deteriorate workplace morale. Consequently, many companies are implementing stress checks, counseling services, and return-to-work support as essential elements of health management strategies.
As organizations navigate these challenges, creating a supportive environment that allows employees to continue working is crucial for sustaining competitive advantage and future growth. This webinar aims to deliver actionable insights and support strategies for addressing caregiving, mental health, and overall wellness through expert advice and real-world case studies.
