Technovation Girls 2025: A Showcase of Young Innovators
On June 21, 2025, Tokyo's Harajuku area will serve as the stage for the significant
Technovation Girls 2025 Japan Official Pitch Event, organized by Waffle, a non-profit committed to cultivating the next generation of female tech leaders. This prestigious event is backed by esteemed institutions such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan and the American Embassy.
With a participation of over
440 students from
88 teams across
44 prefectures, the event garnered the support of more than
130 volunteers from leading companies, contributing to the development of exciting app projects. Out of these, only
20 teams made it to the national pitch event, showcasing remarkable talents and innovative ideas.
Innovative and Diverse Ideas
This year, in an exciting new approach, the
Challenge Stage was introduced. In addition to the already selected
10 finalists, teams ranked from
11th to 20th were invited to compete for the chance to become the 11th finalist. This added an element of suspense and competition to the event, with participants presenting their projects just before the grand finale.
Feedback from participants highlighted the transformative nature of the event. One teenage competitor expressed, "I truly appreciated the support we received—everyone cheering us on made a significant difference," reflecting on the confidence she gained through this experience. Another participant mentioned, "I’ve realized I don't want to compromise my career aspirations, regardless of outside opinions," showcasing the profound impact this platform has on young women’s ambitions.
Feedback from Judges and Participants
Judges were equally moved by the participants' dedication and creativity. Many noted how impressive it was to see students tackling both local and global challenges with genuine passion. One judge remarked, "Witnessing these young women approach societal issues with their perspectives was truly a moment of growth for them. It was a powerful and emotional experience for us all."
Moreover, judges felt inspired to be more proactive in addressing societal issues themselves, acknowledging that while they recognized problems, they hadn't pursued solutions as effectively as the teams did. Such reflections from adult professionals underscore the event's importance in fostering a culture of empowerment.
A Commitment to Education and Mentorship
Technovation Girls is an initiative by the US-based
STEM education non-profit that aims to nurture the next generation of female IT entrepreneurs through competition in idea generation, pitching, technical skills, and entrepreneurial spirit. Since its inception in 2010, over
34,000 participants from more than
100 countries have engaged in this global initiative. Waffle, the official ambassador for Japan, collaborates with various educational organizations to support participants in their journey toward the international competition.
The participants' journey doesn’t just end with the pitch event; those who excelled are set to take part in this year’s
World Summit, scheduled for
September 2025. This follow-up opportunity opens doors for further learning and networking, keeping the momentum of the Technovation spirit alive.
