United Polaris Lounge Reimagined
United Airlines has made a significant investment in the traveler experience with the recent reopening of its renovated
United Polaris Lounge at Chicago O'Hare International Airport. On April 29, 2025, the airline opened the lounge, boasting
50% more space than before. Covering nearly
25,000 square feet, the lounge now accommodates over
350 seats, including a
50-seat private dining room. Not only does it provide ample space for relaxation, but it also features an additional bar and enhanced amenities that travelers have come to expect.
This renovation is part of United's ongoing commitment to improving its airport lounge portfolio. The Polaris Lounge, originally launched in 2016, was the first dedicated business-class lounge for international travelers among U.S. carriers, and now with six such lounges operating across the country, United is proud to remain at the forefront of providing premium waiting areas for flyers.
Enhanced Dining and Beverage Options
One of the standout features of the revamped lounge is its dining experience. The inclusion of a
second bar makes United the first U.S. airline to feature two full-service bars within a single business class lounge. Here, guests can enjoy over
25 bar seats, with the option to take drinks to other areas of the lounge. The selection boasts premium liquors, fine wines, and even local Chicago-inspired cocktails such as the
Second City Sour.
An expansive dining area has also been developed, which now offers nearly triple the previous seating capacity. Travelers can order from an
à la carte menu that features curated gourmet dishes like
Shrimp and Scallop Risotto and
Aperol Spritz cake. In addition, a hot buffet is available at various times throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner options paired with a mezze station that highlights seasonal flavors and fresh ingredients.
Culturally Inspired Design
The lounge's design reflects the essence of Chicago, showcasing the city’s architectural beauty and vibrant culture. Collaborating with
Johalla Projects, a local art collective, United has displayed works from nine Chicago-based artists, presenting a diverse range of artwork including print photography, paintings, and collages that highlight the city’s unique geography.
Moreover, United has partnered with
Crate & Barrel to enhance the lounge's aesthetic appeal. This collaboration has resulted in exclusive dinnerware and decor options that elevate the overall design while providing practical functionality. Travelers will notice pieces from Crate & Barrel, including classic
Marin dinnerware and a unique collection inspired by the Tuscan Marble pattern.
Future Plans and Expansion
This lounge renovation is a key part of United’s broader strategy to enhance its airport lounge offerings. Over the past couple of years, United has made upgrades to nine other club locations and plans to continue this trend with future openings and redesigns across its network. Recent additions include the opening of
United Club Fly in Houston and future expansions planned in Newark and Denver.
As the demand for international travel continues to grow, particularly from the
Chicago hub with nonstop connections to
15 destinations in Europe and services to Asia and South America, the enhanced Polaris Lounge provides an essential service for its travelers. This space allows guests to recharge between long-haul flights with the utmost comfort and luxury.
With its new features and design, the Chicago Polaris Lounge is set to impress travelers flying out of O'Hare, making it a fitting prelude to their journeys around the world.
