In a significant development for the medical field, Aignostics has officially announced the early access launch of PathoSearch, a sophisticated visual search engine designed specifically for pathology cases. This innovative tool offers pathologists the ability to retrieve similar diagnosed reference cases from a mere screenshot of a region of interest on an HE slide. With the complexities of rare and challenging cases often consuming a substantial part of a pathologist's workload—up to 20%—this new technology promises to streamline and enhance diagnostic processes.

A Real-World Solution to Complex Cases


Pathologists frequently rely on traditional references, such as textbooks, databases, or external consultations, to resolve difficult cases. However, these methods often result in delays and increased costs, with consultation fees for major cancer centers ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars per case. As noted by Associate Professor Dr. Simon Schallenberg from Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, obtaining a second opinion can take hours or even days, particularly when physical glass slides must be shipped.

PathoSearch stands to change this narrative. By beginning with an image, the platform instantly provides matches from its proprietary multi-center reference database, powered by the advancements of Atlas 2—Aignostics’ pathology foundation model co-developed with Mayo Clinic. This model ensures that every retrieval corresponds to a real, diagnosed case that has been meticulously annotated and validated by experienced pathologists.

An Expansive Database Awaits


Currently, PathoSearch has access to over 310,000 whole slide images drawn from more than 35,000 cases, covering more than 300 diagnostic entities across 27 organs. As part of its roadmap, Aignostics aims to expand this database to exceed one million whole slide images by the time of general availability, focusing primarily on malignant tumors as classified by the WHO. The coverage spans a wide array of organs, including thoracic, digestive, soft tissue, bone, female genital, and both urinary and male genital systems.

Easy Integration into Existing Systems


An exciting feature of PathoSearch is its availability for integration within existing image management systems. The first integration is already live on Techcyte Fusion® AP, allowing pathologists using this platform to leverage PathoSearch for their diagnostic needs easily.
