HOYA Surgical Training Center Reopens in Nakano, Tokyo
On October 13, 2026, the HOYA Surgical Training Center will officially reopen its doors in Nakano, Tokyo, located on the sixth floor of the Nakano Central Park building. This facility is dedicated to providing essential training for healthcare professionals in the ophthalmology field, specifically focusing on the safe and proper use of artificial lenses and other medical equipment from HOYA. Through this renovation, the center aims to enhance its facilities and training environments, offering comprehensive hands-on education and product training.
The Need for Enhanced Cataract Surgery Training
As cataracts become increasingly prevalent in an aging society like Japan, the need for effective cataract surgery rises. With the advent of premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) aimed at correcting presbyopia, patient expectations for quality of vision (QOV) are also on the rise. The performance of IOLs and the surgeon’s proficiency in utilizing them directly impact surgical outcomes. HOYA is committed to improving patients' QOV, enhancing their daily life experiences, and contributing to their overall well-being.
Quality of Vision encompasses more than just visual acuity; it includes factors such as clarity, contrast sensitivity, and comfort, creating a holistic perspective on patients' visual experiences.
HOYA's Commitment to Product Development
With a strong history of integrating feedback from Japanese medical professionals, HOYA has made significant strides in ophthalmic product development. Recent innovations include the single-focus IOLs like the
Impress and multifocal IOLs such as
Gemetric and
Gemetric Plus. HOYA has also improved injectors aimed at enhancing the safety and operability during cataract surgery, notably through the
multiSert device. By promoting the appropriate use of HOYA products among healthcare professionals, the company aims to support safer cataract surgery practices.
The Goals of the Renovated Training Center
The revamped HOYA Surgical Training Center aims to provide practical training opportunities in an environment that closely mirrors clinical settings. Bernd Weber, Head of HOYA Medical Division, stated, “The renovation of the HOYA Surgical Training Center allows us to present a practical environment for medical professionals, ensuring the safe and appropriate use of HOYA's IOLs. Through these efforts, we seek to enhance the quality of vision and overall quality of life for each and every patient.”
Features of the HOYA Surgical Training Center
