Stena RoRo Welcomes Its 13th E-Flexer Ferry
Stena RoRo, a prominent name in the maritime industry, recently celebrated the delivery of its 13th E-Flexer series ship, named Capu Rossu, from the esteemed China Merchants Industry shipyard located in Weihai, China. This accomplishment marks yet another milestone in Stena RoRo’s efforts to innovate the ferry sector by prioritizing environmental sustainability and operational flexibility.
The E-Flexer series stands out as a new generation of RoPax ferries. Its design surpasses that of the traditional RoPax ferries in both size and adaptability. Each ship is uniquely tailored to meet both technical specifications and commercial requirements of the operators, ensuring efficient service while accommodating the specific demands of modern transportation.
This latest addition, Capu Rossu, is set to begin commercial operations in mid-June, facilitating travel between Marseille, France, and Corsica. This route is expected to enhance passenger capacity and freight handling, further establishing Stena RoRo’s reliability in ferry operations.
Advanced Features for Environmental Sustainability
One remarkable aspect of the E-Flexer design is its commitment to minimizing environmental impact. The ship incorporates a highly optimized hull shape, multifuel engines, and a unique Battery Power Class notation. With these advanced features, Capu Rossu aims to be one of the most eco-friendly vessels ever constructed.
Per Westling, the CEO of Stena RoRo, emphasized that the rapid advancements in hull designs, combined with propulsion optimization and battery power systems, make ordering such cutting-edge vessels essential for mitigating CO2 emissions within the ferry sector. This proactive approach demonstrates Stena RoRo's commitment to sustainability and innovation in maritime transport.
A Long-Standing Collaboration with China Merchants Industry
The manufacturing of Capu Rossu through the China Merchants Industry Weihai shipyard is a testament to the fruitful partnership between Stena RoRo and the shipyard, which dates back to 2016. To date, this collaboration has resulted in 19 vessel orders, including 15 E-Flexers, showcasing the success and efficiency of their joint ventures.
Westling noted that this partnership has enabled them to deliver tailored vessels with exceptional quality and punctuality, not only for Stena Line but also for various external ferry operators. This effectively reinforces the reputation for reliability and craftsmanship that Stena RoRo has built over the years.
