In recent times, the online marketplace has been plagued by scams targeting job seekers, with Doba, a prominent U.S.-based dropshipping platform, stepping forward to warn about fraudulent activities impersonating their brand. This warning comes after Doba received alarming reports of a fake website and misleading social media advertisements deceiving potential applicants.
The Nature of the Scam
The fraudulent operation involves a deceptive website named dobatechi.com that closely resembles the international dropshipping platform, Doba. The scammers have been leveraging social media channels, particularly platforms like Facebook, to reach out to unsuspecting job seekers. Individuals in regions as diverse as Australia and Pakistan reported being approached through informal communication methods, including ads on Facebook, WhatsApp messages, and direct emails via personal Gmail accounts.
Upon responding to these advertisements, victims were directed to register on the fake website, where they were led to believe they needed to perform “training tasks” using shared login details. This is a common tactic employed by scammers to trick candidates into sending money under various pretexts, such as unlocking access to tasks or earning commissions.
Doba's Official Stance
In an official statement, a Doba representative expressed serious concern, emphasizing, "Our legitimate website is always doba.com. We don’t recruit through messaging platforms such as WhatsApp or Facebook, nor do we ever ask applicants to deposit funds or use shared accounts to complete tasks."
