KAPSARC Takes Part as National Partner in 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh

KAPSARC Participates in the 25th WPC Energy Congress in Riyadh

In an unprecedented move, the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) has signed on as the national partner for the 25th edition of the World Petroleum Congress (WPC), set to take place from October 11 to 15, 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This event marks the first time that the congress, which has its roots dating back to 1933 in London, is hosted in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The theme of the 2026 congress, 'Paths to an Energy Future for All,' signals a commitment to exploring innovative energy solutions and discussions pivotal to reshaping global energy systems. KAPSARC will bring over 20 leaders, researchers, and experts into the fold of the congress programs, engaging in various thematic discussions spanning executive, technical, synergy, and special programs.

A Platform for Energy Leadership

Among the prominent representatives, KAPSARC President Fahad Alajlan and Dr. Ghadah Alarifi, Dean of the KAPSARC School of Public Policy, will be speaking at the conference's Executive Program. Their contributions will encapsulate vitally important insights on energy supply and demand dynamics, access to energy, natural gas, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics, and more. The dialogue will further extend to highlight pathways towards a greener, carbon-neutral future in petroleum and petrochemical industries.

KAPSARC is not merely a participant but an active contributor, leading a 'Knowledge Sprint' session titled 'Generative AI for Evidence-Based Oil Markets.' This session will delve into how generative AI can positively impact oil market analysis and |policy studies, addressing technical workflows, econometric analyses, and responsible AI practices.

Engaging in Key Discussions

Moreover, during the World Café, KAPSARC will conduct a session on 'Technologies for Carbon Dioxide Removal.' This gathering aims at forging connections among experts, policymakers, and practitioners to evaluate the prospects of deploying essential technological solutions for carbon removal at large scales. The discourse will cover direct air capture technologies, bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), and biochar, elaborating on economic, infrastructural, regulatory, and carbon market factors influencing their implementation.

Experts from KAPSARC will also play a key role in discussions surrounding 'Accelerating the Carbon Circular Economy through Collaborative Action' and 'AI Partnerships for Energy Innovations,' thus providing research-based insights that straddle the intersection of energy, technology, and sustainability.

KAPSARC Pavilion: A Hub of Knowledge

The KAPSARC Pavilion at the congress will offer a distinct space for knowledge exchange, organized into five thematic hubs: Oil Hub, Transportation Hub, Clean Energy Hub, AI Hub, and Collaboration Hub. Each hub will showcase KAPSARC's research findings, analytical tools, and expertise, providing attendees with a comprehensive view of pivotal research areas and new subjects driving change in energy systems.

The pavilion also hosts the KAPSARC School of Public Policy (KSPP) and the Saudi Energy Leaders Assembly (SELA), providing further opportunities for policymaking education, leadership development, and knowledge-sharing.

Through its role as a national partner and active participant in various programs and sessions, KAPSARC will connect Saudi-based research and policy expertise to international conversations on energy security, investments, technology, and sustainability.
