On December 24, 2025, the General Association for the Promotion of Local Government Digital Transformation (GDX) successfully held an online seminar titled "Report on the Actual State of Public-Private Partnerships in Local Governments: Why Do Some Partnerships Succeed? - Unveiling the Success Factors through Data." The event witnessed overwhelming interest with a participant registration that exceeded the initial capacity of 100, compelling organizers to expand it to 300 attendees.
The seminar attracted a wide array of participants, including local government officials and representatives from private companies across Japan. Following the event, an informal survey revealed that an impressive 95% of attendees found the session beneficial, demonstrating the significant impact of the insights shared.
Participants expressed their thoughts on the discussions, with one commenting, "I was struck by the data indicating that 70% of the field desires co-creation, yet about 80% lack a clear strategy; this mirrors the current situation in our city" (Nagano Prefecture - City). Another participant noted, "Hearing specific case studies from businesses was illuminating. I believe the focus on achieving 'self-sufficiency with no financial burden' will serve as a model for future public-private partnerships" (Fukushima Prefecture - Town).
The importance of utilizing AI to visualize citizens' genuine opinions was emphasized as a crucial perspective for future administrative services (Private Sector). Additionally, requests for replays were made by those unable to attend due to last-minute official obligations, showcasing the considerable demand for this information.
In light of this interest, GDX has announced plans for an archive distribution of the seminar. This decision came as many attendees expressed their desire to access the content later and share it internally within their organizations. GDX aims to provide details about the scheduling and viewing methods soon, encouraging interested parties to register via the provided application form.
