Mikael-do Celebrates One Year of Revitalized Bakery with a Grand Customer Appreciation Event

Celebrating a Year of Tradition and Innovation at Mikael-do

Mikael-do, a beloved bakery that has captured the hearts of locals in Miyazaki since its establishment in 1927, proudly marks its first anniversary on November 14, 2025. After a brief closure in 2023, the iconic bakery was revived through a business succession and is now dedicated to serving its signature product, the famous 'Jari Pan'. This year alone, the bakery has impressively sold over 150,000 units of its beloved bread, demonstrating a strong revival and connection to the community.

The Revival of a Classic

In March 2023, the beloved bakery closed its doors, leaving a void in the local community. However, in November 2024, under the management of egumiculture Corporation, with Shōei Ōtsu at the helm, Mikael-do reopened, bringing back cherished memories and flavors. The bakery prides itself on staying true to its roots, continuing the legacy of the third generation, who ensures that the traditional recipe and manufacturing techniques passed down from the previous generations are meticulously preserved.

With a commitment to connecting the region's flavors to future generations, Mikael-do has taken its first steps toward a new century of service. The bakery is defined by its dedication to quality and authenticity, serving the iconic Jari Pan just as it has been for nearly a century.

A Community-Centric Approach

Working with a team of diverse individuals ranging from their 20s to 60s, Mikael-do emphasizes the importance of community in its operations. The bakery has a small, nine-pyong factory where about seven to eight staff members work diligently each day to produce Jari Pan. This small but mighty team operates with passion, ensuring each loaf is made with love and care.

A crowdfunding initiative used to implement a traditional cream application method was taught directly by the wife of the previous owner, ensuring authenticity and continuity in their craft.

Rapid Growth in Sales

Mikael-do's revival has been marked by impressive sales figures, with the total units sold now standing at 153,592. This includes approximately 94,460 units sold directly from the store, accounting for 61.5% of total sales, and 59,132 units sold through wholesale channels, contributing to 38.5%. Starting wholesale operations in May allowed Mikael-do to expand its reach, leading to monthly sales exceeding 15,000 units since August.

Anniversary Celebration Event

To celebrate this significant milestone, Mikael-do will host a three-day customer appreciation event from November 13 to 15. Customers who visit the bakery and purchase Jari Pan during this period will receive a special limited edition Mikael-do pin as a token of appreciation. Supplies are limited, so be sure to visit early!

A Message from the CEO

Shōei Ōtsu, CEO of egumiculture, expresses heartfelt gratitude for the support from the community and patrons, stating: "Reopening Mikael-do and reaching our first anniversary has been an incredible journey. This past year has been filled with trial and error, both in baking and management. We are thankful for the community, our partners, and especially the customers who have supported us by picking up our Jari Pan. We aim to foster new connections and smiles through our products in the coming year, continuing our mission to pass local flavors into the future, all while upholding the craftsmanship that defines Mikael-do."
