Arcadis Wins Major Engineering Projects in Los Angeles, Valued at Over $18 Million

Overview

Arcadis, a global leader in sustainable design, engineering, and consultancy, has successfully secured two critical projects in Los Angeles. With a combined value exceeding $18 million, these projects focus on modernizing the Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) and enhancing the city’s Clean Water Program through the Department of Public Works.

Details of the Projects

The two projects signal a significant investment in Los Angeles's infrastructure, providing essential services and improvements that are necessary for the city’s growth and environmental sustainability.

1. Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) Project

Given a staggering budget of $2.5 billion, the LACC Modernization and Expansion project aims to transform the center into one of the most significant convention venues in the United States. This initiative is set to create more than 15,000 jobs and will yield substantial revenue for the local economy. The Arcadis contract associated with this project is worth $11 million.

The enhancements will include:
  • - Additional Exhibit Space: 190,000 square feet of exhibit hall space, connecting the West and South Halls to provide a total of 750,000 square feet of flexible, contiguous event space.
  • - New Meeting Rooms: 55,000 square feet devoted to new meeting facilities, enhancing the venue’s capacity for conferences and business gatherings.
  • - Extended Event Areas: 95,000 square feet of external event space, providing outdoor options for gatherings.

Arcadis's Los Angeles City Executive, Macaria Flores, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “These wins reflect Arcadis's commitment to transforming Los Angeles's infrastructure and environment. Being part of the expansion and renovation of the Los Angeles Convention Center is one of those once-in-a-lifetime projects.”

2. Clean Water Program

Alongside the LACC project, Arcadis will also play a pivotal role in the Clean Water Program, under a $7.5 million contract spanning five years. This program consists of three primary stormwater tasks:
  • - Stormwater Capture Parks Program: Focused on replenishing groundwater and improving water quality through nine parks in the San Fernando Valley.
  • - Safe, Clean Water Program: Encompassing over 120 projects, this initiative is designed to tackle stormwater capture, infrastructure upgrades, and ensure climate resilience across the city. A notable undertaking is the rehabilitation of Hollenbeck Park Lake.
  • - Flood Insurance Management: Aiming to meet and exceed FEMA standards, this initiative enhances floodplain management and helps cities reduce insurance costs.

Hector Arias, the Stormwater Program Lead at Arcadis, noted the company’s extensive experience: “We leveraged 15 years of experience leading the City of Los Angeles Proposition 'O' stormwater program to secure our continued participation... We are proud to play a key role in building a more sustainable, resilient future for the city.”

Conclusion

These projects by Arcadis represent significant strides toward sustainable urban development in Los Angeles. With an emphasis on boosting job creation and enhancing water quality, the initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to modern infrastructure challenges. As the projects progress, they are poised to not only reaffirm Los Angeles's status as a premier events destination but also improve the quality of life for its residents.

Arcadis continues to demonstrate its expertise in delivering innovative, data-driven solutions that meet the evolving needs of global cities, ensuring a sustainable outcome for the current and future generations.
