Clarios Unveils Groundbreaking OPTIMA Race Battery at IAA Mobility 2025 to Enhance Motorsports Performance

Clarios Unveils the New OPTIMA Race Battery

At the prestigious IAA Mobility 2025 event held in Munich, Clarios, a leader in advanced low-voltage battery technologies, has unveiled the highly anticipated OPTIMA Race Battery. This latest innovation is designed to meet the extreme demands of motorsports, demonstrating Clarios' dedication to both performance and sustainability.

A New Era of Racing Power

The OPTIMA Race Battery represents a significant advancement in battery technology for motorsports. Engineered for lightweight construction and extreme durability, this battery is based on advanced lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry. Despite its compact design, it boasts an impressive power output of over 1000A while weighing just over 4kg. This combination not only enhances race performance but also ensures reliability even in the most challenging conditions.

The battery is rated IP69, ensuring protection against dust and possible water intrusion, a vital feature for motorsport applications. With extreme vibration resistance, it has been specifically designed to perform under the rigorous conditions of racing environments.

Integration and Safety Features

One of the standout features of the OPTIMA Race Battery is its integrated Battery Management System (BMS). This system provides comprehensive safety protections against short circuits, over/under voltage occurrences, as well as careful monitoring of current and temperature levels. Additionally, it incorporates cell balancing and fault/error logging, which are crucial for maintaining optimal battery performance.

In compliance with FIA regulations, the battery includes a secondary constant 12V power supply for critical systems, thereby ensuring the vehicle's performance remains uninterrupted. Another unique feature is its advanced CAN communication capability, which facilitates real-time monitoring of battery parameters and seamless integration with other race vehicle systems. This innovative technology allows for automatic or manual switching to a secondary battery in endurance races if the primary battery encounters a failure.

Collaboration with F.A.T. International

Clarios's collaboration with F.A.T. International exemplifies its commitment to empowering motorsports communities. F.A.T. International, known for its prowess in logistics and motorsports, showcased the remarkable Porsche 992 Dakar at the event, which highlights the capabilities of the OPTIMA Race Battery under extreme conditions. This collaboration reflects an understanding of the needs of motorsport enthusiasts and reinforces Clarios's position at the forefront of battery innovation.

Federico Morales-Zimmermann, Vice President and General Manager of Global OEM Customers, Products, and Engineering at Clarios, remarked, "The OPTIMA Race Battery reflects our engineering team's commitment to solving real-world motorsports challenges. It's not just about power — it’s about powering performance and possibility at the highest level and in the most demanding conditions."

Looking Ahead

As the motorsports landscape continues to evolve, Clarios is poised to lead in delivering cutting-edge battery solutions. The OPTIMA Race Battery not only enhances performance but also embodies the company's commitment to sustainability, as reflected in its rigorous practices regarding recycling and eco-friendly manufacturing processes.
