BEENOS Releases Cross-Border E-Commerce and Fashion Research Insights

Insights from BEENOS' Recent Research on Cross-Border E-Commerce in Fashion

BEENOS Inc., headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has conducted a survey among 420 international users of its cross-border e-commerce service, Buyee. This survey sheds light on the purchasing experiences of consumers and provides practical insights for Japanese fashion brands looking to expand their global presence.

Key Findings from the Survey

One of the most notable findings reveals that everyday clothing items, particularly tops, dominate purchases among international customers, with 64.1% opting for them. Outerwear follows closely at 51.6%, indicating a strong preference for functional yet stylish apparel. Accessories and bags also capture significant attention, appealing to the diverse tastes of global shoppers. Interestingly, 26.1% of respondents reported a preference for vintage and designer archive styles, suggesting a robust demand for high-quality second-hand goods and iconic designs from Japan.

Additionally, when looking at total expenditures, 23.7% of participants had invested over ¥300,000 (approximately $2,000) in Japanese fashion through cross-border e-commerce, with over 40% of respondents indicating spending exceeding ¥100,000. This underlines the lucrative potential for Japanese fashion entities to engage in international markets.

Appreciating Japanese Brands: Quality and Design

The allure of Japanese fashion brands lies in their superior quality and refined craftsmanship. A significant 63.0% of respondents appreciate the quality of materials and stitching, while 59.5% commend the high design aesthetic. However, despite this positive feedback, more than half of the participants (52.2%) expressed security concerns regarding their online purchases. Size discrepancies account for the primary concern among 78.5% of shoppers, highlighting the challenges faced in shopping without the possibility of trying items on.

Overcoming Size Anxiety

To address these size-related anxieties, many users rely on comparing the dimensions of potential purchases with their own garments, with 66.8% citing this method. Moreover, 72.6% of respondents indicated that having a detailed size chart would enhance their confidence in purchasing. Other helpful materials included comprehensive product descriptions regarding fabric care and washing instructions, to reassure buyers about their choices. The feedback indicates that providing ample and clear information can significantly mitigate hesitation and drive sales.

Rising Stars in Japanese Fashion

When asked about their favorite Japanese fashion brands, a diverse range of names emerged from the survey. Leading the pack are globally recognized brands like Uniqlo, renowned for its accessibility, and Comme des Garçons, a hallmark of avant-garde design. Mizuno also saw notable mentions amid the growing popularity of sneaker culture. The survey revealed a captivating interest in various sectors of Japanese fashion, from streetwear to traditional styles.

Survey Overview

To summarize, this survey conducted from July 6-13, 2026, involved participants who had purchased items via Buyee within the past year and was carried out through online methods. The insights provided not only highlight consumer behavior but also present an action plan for Japanese fashion brands aiming to capture international markets effectively.
