The Doux Celebrates Black Women Over 40 with a Groundbreaking Exhibit

In a remarkable celebration of International Women's Day and Women's History Month,
The Doux is set to host the photography exhibit titled Our Kind of Women.
This event, scheduled for March 8 at The Doux headquarters in Atlanta, aims not just to showcase art but to honor the powerful stories of Black women over 40.

This event will feature a public gallery exhibition from 2 PM to 4 PM, alongside a private reception.
The collaboration with acclaimed actor, director, and philanthropist Terri J. Vaughn highlights the importance of uplifting Black women at this vibrant stage of their lives.
Terri has long been an advocate for women, and her involvement adds significant depth to this celebration.

Our Kind of Women is spearheaded by photographer Bessie Akuba Winn, who has dedicated her skills to paying tribute to Black women who encapsulate strength, creativity, and authenticity.
This ongoing project will not only manifest in an exhibition but will also transform into a coffee-table book, ensuring the stories of these phenomenal women reach a wider audience and fostering a growing community movement celebrating Black excellence.

Among the featured participants are notable figures such as actress Joi Gilliam, sports personality Rashan Ali, and entrepreneur Dawn Montgomery. Each participant embodies a unique narrative of resilience, beauty, and purpose that reflects the diversity and richness of Black culture.

Maya Smith, co-founder and CEO of The Doux, expressed her personal connection to the project.
"When I first encountered this initiative, it resonated with me deeply. It’s about acknowledging Black women as we flourish in our lives.
Women over 40 continue to create and evolve; we do not fade into the background; rather, we come into our own. Supporting Bessie and this project is a reflection of our commitment to visibility and representation," she stated.

The Doux, founded by Maya and Brian Smith, stands as an award-winning, independent, Black-owned haircare brand.
With a focus on creating salon-quality products that cater to real-life needs, The Doux has made a name for itself in both the U.S. and international markets.
Their deep commitment to community and culture is evident in everything they do, and this exhibit aligns perfectly with their core values.

Bessie Akuba Winn, the creative force behind Our Kind of Women, is known for her ability to cultivate an environment where Black women feel seen, respected, and celebrated.
Through her portrait work, she seeks to create spaces of honesty and care, amplifying the voices and stories that are often overlooked.

As the event approaches, anticipation is building among the Atlanta community and beyond. Our Kind of Women promises to offer more than just a visual experience; it will also facilitate meaningful conversations about the legacy and impact of Black women who are proudly defining their trajectories.

In a world where representation matters, The Doux’s Our Kind of Women exhibit serves as a vital reminder of the strength, creativity, and beauty that comes with age and authenticity.
With this initiative, The Doux not only pays homage but also inspires future generations to embrace their journeys, no matter where they are in life.
