Kuradashi Secures Economic Ministry's Growth Subsidy
Tokyo-based Kuradashi, led by CEO Kohei Kawamura, has announced its acceptance into the SME Growth Acceleration Subsidy program initiated by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). This program aims to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that are targeting annual revenues of over 10 billion yen by fostering significant investments that contribute to wage increases, export growth, and positive regional economic impacts through local sourcing.
Understanding the SME Growth Acceleration Subsidy
The SME Growth Acceleration Subsidy facilitates substantial investments in bold growth initiatives, with a maximum subsidy amount of 500 million yen, covering up to half of the project costs. This financial support aims to propel SMEs towards their growth ambitions, ensuring their pivotal role in both economic and social contexts.
Kuradashi’s “100 Billion Yen Declaration”
Central to Kuradashi’s mission is its “100 Billion Yen Declaration,” which outlines their commitment to achieving a 10 billion yen revenue target. This declaration includes a comprehensive overview of Kuradashi’s business structure, the challenges ahead, actionable steps toward goal achievement, and a clear operational framework. At its core, the declaration emphasizes the expansion of its social good market and enhancing logistics systems while concurrently addressing food waste and other social issues.
A Sustainable Business Model
Kuradashi is committed to establishing a food logistics hub equipped with battery storage that manages goods across three temperature ranges—room temperature, refrigerated, and frozen. This setup will not only promote food waste reduction during normal operations but also ensure a continuous supply of food during disasters or outages.
Commentary from Leadership
CEO Kohei Kawamura expressed his gratitude for being selected for the subsidy, acknowledging the ministry’s support for their initiatives aimed at reducing food waste through the Kuradashi social good market platform. “This acceptance is a significant step in expanding our efforts into new areas of logistics and supply continuity. The establishment of a food logistics center with battery systems will reinforce our commitment to reducing food waste and improving logistics efficiency, ensuring that our operations persist even during emergencies,” Kawamura stated.
Leveraging the Subsidy for Expansion
Utilizing the subsidized funds, Kuradashi's plan includes constructing the logistics center that will enhance their operational resilience, helping to position them as leaders in both economic growth and social impact.
