Ericsson Simplifies Group Structure to Enhance Customer Focus and Efficiency

Ericsson Simplifies Group Structure for Better Customer Service and Efficiency

On October 15, 2026, Ericsson, a leading name in telecommunications, revealed plans to revamp its organizational structure and Executive Team. The goal is to enhance customer service, leverage research and development (R&D) capabilities, and create operational efficiencies.

Starting January 1, 2027, Ericsson will introduce a new Market Area known as Asia-Pacific (APAC), consolidating its existing North East Asia and South East Asia, Oceania, and India markets. This strategic realignment will promote more effective operations across the diverse markets while focusing on local customer needs.

Leadership Changes
The new APAC market will be led by Patrick Johansson, who is transitioning from his current role as Head of Market Area Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA). This appointment reflects Johansson's vast experience within the APAC region, making him an ideal leader to boost customer relationships and foster growth in the newly formed market.

Per Narvinger, President and CEO of Ericsson, expressed optimism about these changes, stating, “With the announced changes, our Executive Team will be more streamlined and balanced in responsibilities, enabling quicker responses to dynamic market conditions.”

He emphasized the significance of a focused approach in the Asia-Pacific area, where many key customers reside, as this modification aims to enhance service quality and customer satisfaction.

As part of this restructuring, Chafic Nassif, the current Head of North East Asia, and Andres Vicente, who oversees South East Asia, Oceania, and India, will assist in establishing the new APAC unit before transitioning out of their positions on December 31, 2026. Narvinger commended both leaders for their invaluable contributions over their tenure with Ericsson.

Transforming Business Areas
Alongside changes in geographical structure, Ericsson is also reshaping its Business Area Enterprise Wireless Solutions (BEWS). The indoor and enterprise solutions that deliver seamless connectivity are anticipated to be increasingly vital, especially as robust mobile networks enable innovative applications such as AI integrations.

To achieve the necessary scale and synergy for product innovation, the BEWS’s portfolio will be redistributed to other segments within Ericsson. Notably, the Neutral Host solutions and Ericsson Private 5G will now fall under the Business Area Networks, enabling tighter collaboration with key clients and increasing operational efficiency. Furthermore, Wireless WAN solutions will maintain their independent status, reporting to Yossi Cohen, Head of Market Area Americas.

The transition is set to continue with Åsa Tamsons, current head of BEWS, who will support the integration of the portfolio before stepping down from her role on December 31, 2026. Narvinger acknowledged Tamsons's significant role in forging new connections and leading the company through challenges during her tenure.

Future Focus
Ericsson's restructuring reflects a broader industry trend towards enhanced customer-centric operations and innovative product offerings. By streamlining its organizational framework, the company aims to bolster its research-and-development focus, ensuring it meets the varied demands of Communication Service Providers (CSP) and enterprise customers.

In conclusion, these strategic changes are designed not only to improve customer service but also to solidify Ericsson's position in the telecommunications industry as a forward-thinking and responsive leader. The company's commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction reaffirms its dedication to shaping the future of communication.
