Pure DC Expands Its Footprint with Europe's Largest Hyperscale Data Centre in Amsterdam

Pure Data Centres Group (Pure DC) has made headlines by signing a significant lease for what will become the largest standalone hyperscale data centre in Europe. This groundbreaking development, scheduled to open in 2025, is set in Amsterdam-Westpoort, a strategic location that will enable Pure DC to support the growing demands of cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

Major Investment for a Transformative Project

With an investment exceeding one billion euros, the new campus will encompass a capacity of 78 MW, providing expansive resources to meet the needs of a large-scale client within the technology sector. To bring this vision to fruition, Pure DC has navigated a series of complex negotiations to secure the necessary land, building permits, and power supply, ensuring that the site will be equipped with 100 MVA of electricity delivered through a dedicated private substation.

The land for this ambitious project has been leased from the Port of Amsterdam, and securing this site involved extensive dialogue and innovative partnerships over several months. The successful agreement demonstrates Pure DC's commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and energy resilience in the region, addressing the increasing complexities of modern data needs.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

This major investment is not only about technological advancements; it is expected to generate significant economic benefits. Pure DC's initiative will directly create over 1,000 jobs, and its operations will stimulate demand for skilled labor, favoring local businesses whenever possible. Upon completion, the data centre is projected to offer roughly 80 permanent positions for skilled professions, including engineers, maintenance staff, security personnel, and administrative roles.

State-of-the-Art Design and Energy Efficiency

The data centre, named AMS01, will feature three towering structures, each standing 85 meters tall. They will be powered by the dedicated substation, which is already built and operational, ensuring a reliable connection to the 50 kV network. Each tower will house data rooms with a capacity of 26 MW, designed specifically for high-density computing. Notably, the facility will utilize advanced cooling systems to meet the Dutch efficiency goal of achieving a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.2.

Construction on the data rooms is set to commence in January 2026, marking a significant step forward in the rapidly evolving landscape of digital infrastructure.

Beyond the project’s immediate impact, Pure DC intends to actively engage with local communities surrounding their operational sites. The company aims to replicate successful community outreach programs seen in other projects, focusing on partnerships with local schools and universities.
