Promoting Health in the Community: The Narupo Initiative for Those Over 40

The Narupo Initiative: Health Points for Residents Over 40

In a transformative approach to community health, Bespra Inc., headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo, has introduced the health points program known as "Narupo" in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. As September marks Dementia Month, this initiative serves to promote well-being among local residents, specifically those aged 40 and above.

Daily Health Habits and Community Engagement

Narupo allows participants to earn points through a variety of activities aimed at improving their health. The program tracks daily health habits like steps taken, brain training, and diet, alongside participation in community activities led by the city, such as caregiving prevention classes and lively salons. Residents can earn points by scanning QR codes at these events, as well as through health checks and consultations offered by the municipality, making it more than just a tracking app.

By enabling users to form connections with others, Narupo fosters an environment where health discussions can take place, blending virtual health records with community interactions. This integration is pivotal in ensuring that healthy habits are not practiced in isolation but within a supportive network.

Rewards System for Participants

Residents accumulating 500 points can exchange them for a local gift certificate valued at 500 yen or PayPay points totaling 450 yen. Interestingly, there are different eligibility criteria for various age groups: those aged between 40 and 64 can receive only PayPay points, while residents aged 65 and older can choose between the two options. Since its initiation in October 2025, the program has evolved from catering solely to seniors to openly include residents aged 40 and above, demonstrating an admirable commitment to fostering health at all stages of life.

Support for Families Affected by Dementia

The Narupo initiative also serves as a vital resource for individuals and families living with dementia. The application provides information regarding dementia support courses, awareness events, and cafes aimed at caregivers. Through these resources, the city supports families, ensuring they have safe spaces to navigate the challenges associated with dementia.

Community-run salons offer a variety of activities like exercise, handicrafts, studying, and singing, further enriching local engagement. During Dementia Month each September, the initiative not only highlights individuals maintaining healthy habits but also emphasizes providing a communal space for those affected by dementia and their families to converse and seek assistance.

Moreover, these community support efforts are strengthened by the participation of local organizations and the city's commitment, with Bespra providing the technological infrastructure to manage health points through their application. This synergistic outreach serves as an engaging topic for local media to explore, showcasing interaction in salon settings and the process from health tracking to points redemption.

For Media Representatives

Bespra invites media representatives to inquire about demonstrations of the application and detailed explanations regarding the health points system. We are also open to facilitate interviews with users, local government personnel, and coordination for covering community events as desired.
