ChangAn Automobile Celebrates Global Milestone with New Plant Opening in Rayong and Production of 28.59 Millionth Vehicle
ChangAn Automobile Celebrates a New Global Milestone
On May 16, 2025, ChangAn Automobile, a leader in low carbon smart mobility technologies, officially inaugurated its first overseas plant dedicated to vehicles powered by new energy in Rayong, Thailand. This significant development coincided with the production of the company's 28.59 millionth vehicle, specifically the right-hand drive model of DEEPAL S05. This milestone marks a historic shift from merely exporting products to fully embracing industrial globalization, thereby emphasizing ChangAn's commitment to sustainable and intelligent manufacturing, brand development, and digital ecosystems.
A Historic Inauguration
The plant covers an area of approximately 960,000 square meters and features an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles, a number that is projected to double by 2027. This facility aims to foster localization, promote low-carbon growth, and evolve into a vital participant in Thailand's industrial ecosystem. Notably, ChangAn has committed to generating 30,000 jobs and increasing local tax revenues as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The event was marked by a meeting between Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and ChangAn's Chairman Zhu Huarong, where support for the company's localized operations and the development of the regional supply chain was expressed. This gathering occurred against the backdrop of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, enhancing the significance of the occasion.
Strategic Vision and Sustainable Development
The ChangAn facility in Rayong strengthens the strategic foundation of the company's Vast Ocean Plan and showcases its capability to establish a world-class intelligent manufacturing center characterized by high quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The production process highlights how vehicles powered by new energy can integrate digitization, intelligence, and sustainability, bolstering ChangAn's global expansion efforts.
The plant is designed with a focus on green and smart technology principles, utilizing photovoltaic energy, rainwater recycling, air recirculation systems, virtual simulation, and advanced digital mechanisms to reduce energy consumption and enhance efficiency.
ChangAn has chosen Thailand as its hub for Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, implementing a strategy dubbed "In Thailand, For Thailand". The goal is to surpass five million vehicle sales globally and reach three million sales of intelligent new energy vehicles by 2030. Over the next three years, the company plans to launch 12 new products powered by renewable energy sources while accelerating the implementation of artificial intelligence and assisted-driving technologies.
Furthermore, a new parts warehouse in Rayong will serve as a global hub for right-hand drive vehicles, aiming for a 98% order satisfaction rate with deliveries within 24 hours. This year, ChangAn plans to enhance its platform for digital services in Thailand, integrating AI features for smart vehicle controls, remote diagnostics, battery monitoring, and intelligent maintenance to improve user convenience.
Expanding Global Horizons
Since 2017, ChangAn has embarked on its third business initiative aimed at global growth through its Green Plan, Smart Plan, and Vast Ocean Plan, establishing three key brands: CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR. The company's ambition is to emerge as a leader in low carbon intelligent mobility. In 2024, ChangAn's global vehicle sales reached 2.684 million, marking a year-on-year increase of 5.1%. The sales of new energy vehicles rose significantly to 735,000, showcasing a staggering growth of 52.8%. Recently, the company has successfully launched its products in Mexico, Saudi Arabia, and Germany, with seven models in Thailand including DEEPAL S07 and AVATR 11, achieving over 14,000 units sold and ranking among the top four automakers in the country.
"We will continue to focus on long-term growth and localized operations," stated Zhu Huarong. "Our goal is to establish this factory as a 'reference point'. ChangAn is committed to becoming a smart mobility company with low carbon technologies in the future."
