Maverick Corporation Takes Charge in NYC's EV Charging Expansion Efforts

Maverick Corporation Takes the Lead in NYC's EV Charging Infrastructure

Maverick Corporation, a prominent player in the EV Make Ready design and construction industry, has recently launched a significant initiative in New York City. This initiative will see the company spearheading the ambitious plan to design and implement the largest curbside Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network in the United States for the city's PlugNYC project. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Maverick is poised to demonstrate its extensive experience in managing complex projects that involve close cooperation with city utilities and administrative bodies.

In a strategic move to enhance the city’s EV infrastructure, NYC officials have entrusted it's electric—a leading firm in curbside EV charging solutions—with the task of installing 600 additional curbside chargers across all five boroughs. This project is part of a broader objective to replace existing pilot infrastructure and broaden access to EV charging, particularly in densely populated neighborhoods that host numerous Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) drivers who face challenges in accessing off-street parking.

The revamped charging network is not just about convenience. It aligns with New York City's Green Rides Initiative, which mandates that by 2030, all ride-hailing trips operated under the TLC must either be electric or accessible. This ambitious goal emphasizes the city’s commitment to promoting greener transportation and reducing its carbon footprint.

Diarmuid Clancy, President of Maverick EV Services, articulated the firm’s dedication to this project, stating, "Maverick has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with NYPA, New York State, and local entities for several years, doing the design and construction of EV infrastructure in support of the state's robust EV charging initiatives." He expressed excitement about bringing their extensive expertise to work for the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) and PlugNYC.

New York has established its position at the forefront of sustainable transportation initiatives. By awarding Maverick and its electric this significant contract, the city acknowledges their accumulated knowledge and capacity to execute large-scale projects that comply with both state and municipal climate goals, benefitting local communities in the process.

Clancy further remarked on the synergy between Maverick and it's electric, emphasizing that their combined efforts aim to provide essential charging solutions that cater to public and commercial vehicles alike. Together, the two organizations strive to enhance EV charging accessibility and promote the adoption of renewable energy options across communities.

The collaboration is not without precedent; Maverick and it's electric previously worked on a successful curbside charging program for the City of Boston in 2025. This experience serves as a framework for their approach to New York City's five-borough project. Nathan King, co-founder and CEO of it's electric, underlined Maverick's invaluable role in their previous collaborations, “You can design the best curbside charger in the world, but none of it matters if you can't actually get it built safely, on time, and in coordination with the utility, on a real city block.”

With the support of the NYC DOT, the initiative also aims to alleviate challenges faced by low and moderate-income neighborhoods. The NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn highlighted that making EV chargers more accessible and affordable is essential for facilitating a transition from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to electric ones, especially for underserved communities.

Founded in 1996, Maverick Corporation has executed numerous turnkey EV projects, consistently delivering quality engineering and construction services to various clients including the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and the City of Boston.

In conclusion, Maverick Corporation’s involvement in New York City's curbside EV charging expansion stands as a testament to the city’s commitment to sustainability and reflects the dynamic partnership between innovative companies aimed at creating a cleaner, greener future for urban transportation.
