Kolmar Korea Expands International Skin Care Strategy with Natural Ingredients
Kolmar Korea Expands Its Global Footprint in Skin Care
Kolmar Korea, a prominent player in the global cosmetics market, is amplifying its international strategy, particularly in the skin care realm. The company is determined to promote products that highlight exclusively Korean natural ingredients. As global trends increasingly favor ingredient-based beauty, which emphasizes natural components and verified efficacy, Kolmar is effectively capturing the attention of consumers worldwide with its innovative cleansing products and face masks.
Growth Amid Global Trends
The global market for face cleansers and masks has seen unprecedented growth, partly driven by the rise of short-video platforms like TikTok. The 'Korean skin care routine' has emerged as a focal point within the beauty industry, stimulating consumer interest to diversify their offerings beyond just sunscreen to include cleansing products and masks as well.
In response to these evolving consumer preferences, Kolmar Korea is accelerating its global initiatives. This involves forming partnerships with brand creators to develop skin care products infused with natural Korean ingredients. A notable product is the Mung Bean pH-Balanced Cleansing Foam, co-developed with Beplain, a skin care brand. This foam reinterprets mung beans, a natural cleanser used for over a millennium in Korea, offering a low-irritation formula enriched with powerful cleansing effects. With over 10 million units sold, it has resonated with consumers in markets such as the United States, France, China, and Vietnam, enjoying a surge in popularity thanks to organic-focused social media discussions.
Kolmar is also advancing the development of natural mud masks. The Relief Mud Mask, in collaboration with natural mud cosmetics brand BRMUD, includes over 30% Boryeong mud, sourced from one of the largest tidal plains worldwide in Korea. The mask utilizes ultra-fine powder particles that are 1/40 the size of wheat flour, effectively absorbing impurities without causing irritation. The product, dubbed the 'Cardi B Mud Mask' after being positively promoted by the American singer on TikTok, is now available in 11 countries, including Costco stores in the United States.
Research and Development at the Core
Driving these innovations is Kolmar Korea's leading R&D capabilities. More than 30% of its workforce consists of researchers, and approximately 6% of annual revenue is reinvested into R&D initiatives. The company's competitive advantage is underpinned by extensive expertise cultivated through collaboration with approximately 4,300 global clients.
Furthermore, Kolmar plays a pioneering role in discovering unique Korean cosmetic ingredients. Recently, the anti-aging effects of Spiraea Salicifolia were scientifically validated and published in a high-impact international journal, leading to its inclusion in the International Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary (ICID). Last year, the firm identified the benefits of Sophora flavescens extract, a legume known for its hair loss prevention properties, and presented this research at an international academic conference, receiving notable acclaim. Kolmar also markets fragrances derived from native Korean plants, such as the Rose of Sharon and lotus, to enhance the sensory value of traditional botanical products.
A Kolmar Korea spokesperson stated, "As global interest in Korean cosmetics broadens beyond sunscreen to encompass holistic skin care, we are enhancing our market competitiveness by merging advanced technologies with Korea's natural treasures. Through continuous investment in R&D and innovation, we aim to attain a leadership position in global skin care using exclusively Korean ingredients."
