ESA Announces 2026 Recipients of the Interactive Entertainment Impact Awards

On July 15, 2026, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) revealed the esteemed recipients of the 2026 Interactive Entertainment Impact Awards. Among the honorees are Representative Stephanie Bice (R-OK) and Representative Jim McGovern (D-MA), alongside the educational platform iCivics.

Established in 2024, these awards recognize individuals and organizations that significantly impact the video game sector, highlighting their contributions toward leveraging video games for societal benefits. ESA President and CEO, Stanley Pierre-Louis, remarked, "Video games are integral to the daily lives of over 212 million Americans and serve as a vital economic catalyst across communities. This year's Congressional recipients have endorsed policies fostering the growth of our industry, while iCivics demonstrates how gaming can engage students with vital democratic principles."

Honoring Industry Advocates

Both Representatives Bice and McGovern are renowned for their advocacy for the U.S. video game industry, backing initiatives that ensure intellectual property protection and spur innovation. They also emphasize the importance of education and workforce development within the sector.

Rep. Bice expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, "As Co-Chair of the Congressional Video Game and Esports Caucus, I have witnessed firsthand how video games positively influence lives, from families bonding over games to veterans utilizing gaming as a therapeutic outlet. My commitment remains strong in supporting a thriving and safe online gaming community."

Rep. McGovern echoed her sentiments, sharing his pride in Massachusetts's flourishing video game economy. He highlighted how gaming transcends entertainment by inspiring creativity and critical thinking among players of all ages. "Video games offer profound experiences beyond mere leisure; they foster connections and support a vast network of talented creators and workers across the nation," he commented.

iCivics: Pioneering Civic Education Through Gaming

As America approaches its 250th anniversary, iCivics is recognized for its innovative approach to promoting civic engagement among youths. Through interactive video games, the platform has successfully facilitated learning about democracy and civic duties, making these concepts accessible and engaging for students.

iCivics CEO, Louise Dubè, stated, "We are thrilled to be acknowledged by ESA for our efforts in enhancing civic education through gaming. When students engage in scenarios like negotiating legislation, they transform their understanding of democracy from an abstract concept to a practical experience, empowering them to contribute to society as informed citizens."

The Growing Influence of Gaming

Statistics reveal that gaming has reached a remarkable audience, with 212.3 million Americans regularly participating in video games. The public perception of gaming's benefits for mental, emotional, and social wellness continues to surge. Furthermore, consumer expenditure in the U.S. video game sector skyrocketed from $30.2 billion in 2015 to $60.8 billion in 2025, signifying the industry's substantial economic impact.

The U.S. video game industry generated over $95.8 billion in total economic outcomes in 2025, contributing $65 billion to the nation’s GDP. The ESA established the Interactive Entertainment Impact Awards to continuously recognize and celebrate those who champion the video game sector.
