MetLife Life Insurance Co. Ltd., under the leadership of Dirk Osteen, CEO, has proudly announced its receipt of the Kurumin certification from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare in Japan. This prestigious recognition honors organizations that proactively support employees with childcare responsibilities through established action plans aimed at next-generation development support.

This achievement marks the first time MetLife Japan has applied for and received this commendation. The Kurumin certification indicates that the company has successfully crafted and met objectives outlined in its action plan focused on promoting a conducive environment for working parents.

In line with its dedication to supporting diverse working styles, MetLife is enhancing its framework for work-life balance. Initiatives include flexible hours and various support systems for childcare and caregiving. Noteworthy programs include a time-based entitlement for annual leave and a leave accumulation system that provides time off for personal illness, family caregiving, and child nursing.

As part of its forward-thinking strategy, the company is set to introduce additional benefits in 2024. Proposed enhancements include partial salary compensation during childcare leave and the introduction of paid nursing and caregiving leave, as well as support for infertility treatments. In response to employee feedback, the childcare-related initiative will expand its applicability from the end of the third grade to the end of the sixth grade, effectively extending support to employees with children.

To ensure that employees are well-informed about these substantial improvements, MetLife is also actively utilizing guidebooks and other informational materials to communicate the breadth of its childcare support initiatives within the organization.
