Ecopetrol Announces Key Management Changes and New Legal Representative Appointment
Ecopetrol's Leadership Restructuring
Ecopetrol S.A., Colombia's largest oil company and a significant player in the American energy market, has announced major changes in its senior management. As of December 13, 2024, the Board of Directors officially appointed new leaders to key roles that will shape the company's future trajectory.
The company expressed gratitude to Germán González Reyes, who has been pivotal through his seven years of service in various capacities. He served as Secretary General since September 2023 and held the position of Acting Director of Institutional Relations and Communications until recently. Germán will continue in his role until January 17, 2025, after which he will transition to new ventures. His contributions have been deemed invaluable, and the organization wishes him success in his future endeavors.
In place of Germán, Cristina Toro Restrepo is set to take on the role of Acting Secretary General starting January 18, 2025. Cristina brings a wealth of legal expertise, having worked for 28 years in various sectors, including as Corporate Legal Vice President and Secretary General at different organizations. Her impressive academic background includes degrees specializing in Energy Mining Law, Commercial Law, and Tax and Customs Legislation. Cristina's extensive experience is expected to guide Ecopetrol effectively during this transitional phase.
Concurrently, Rodolfo García Paredes has been appointed as the Acting Corporate Legal Vice President, set to begin his new role on the same date. With over 20 years at Ecopetrol in various leadership roles, Rodolfo's tenure will enhance the legal department’s capacity to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and manage corporate legal matters efficiently.
Diana Marcela Jiménez will also join the leadership team as the Acting Director of Institutional Relations and Communications, beginning January 18, 2025. Diana holds an impressive resume, with a solid educational foundation comprising degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Administration, alongside multiple master's programs in Economics and Corporate Management. Her experience in Institutions and Regulatory Affairs within substantial companies like Enel Colombia will bring strategic insight into the planning and decision-making processes at Ecopetrol.
Moreover, Jaime Andrés García, who currently serves as the Vice President of Administration and Services, has been appointed the chief legal representative for the procurement of goods and services moving forward. This role is crucial as the company strives to maintain robust relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, ensuring seamless operations throughout its extensive network.
Ecopetrol remains a dominant force in Colombia's hydrocarbons sector, responsible for over 60% of the country’s hydrocarbon production, with substantial investments in transportation and refining. The appointments reflect a decisive movement towards reinforcing the organization's commitment to excellence in governance and operational integrity. Through these changes, Ecopetrol aims to strengthen its position both locally and internationally, focusing on collaborative leadership while adapting to the evolving energy landscape.
The company has also been expanding its international footprint, with operations in strategic regions across the Americas—including significant drilling projects in the U.S. and Brazil. As the organization shifts into the next chapter under new management, the commitment to sustainable energy practices and community engagement remains steadfast.
Ecopetrol's ongoing growth and innovation continue to attract attention, as they balance operational excellence with a forward-looking vision for energy over the upcoming years.
