Celebrating Family at the 'Tama Children Festival 2026'
On June 7, 2026, Tama City proudly hosted the third edition of the 'Tama Children Festival' at the lively locations of Nagayama North Park and Nagayama Community Center. This annual event showcases Tama City's commitment to creating a family-centric environment, bringing together educators, local organizations, and families for a day full of engagement and entertainment.
The festival attracted around 12,000 visitors, half of whom came from outside the city, making it a spectacular gathering of families eager to learn and play. Despite occasional rain, attendees expressed joy in spending a memorable day with their children, fully enjoying all the activities on offer.
A Day of Diverse Activities
This year’s festival was brimming with over 40 engaging activities aimed at children, from hands-on crafts and street fairs to thrilling stage events. Parents could consult educational experts and have a relaxing space for take breaks, fostering an inclusive atmosphere for the whole family. A popular feature was the stamp rally that led families around the venue, encouraging exploration and fun.
Nagayama North Park: A Community Hub
The first venue was the open, green expanse of Nagayama North Park, where families enjoyed various attractions. Local fire brigades and educational institutions collaborated to craft exciting experiences and games. The event also featured beloved characters such as Nagadon, a local mascot, and heroes like Blaze Warrior Basuta Flash and Guren Hakuhou Arus, enveloping children in excitement and energy. Additionally, exhibits of flying car models and self-driving vehicles were present, allowing kids to connect with the future of mobility.
Engaging with Local Heroes
Children and families resonated with the popular experiences provided by the Tama City culture, including water-spraying demonstrations by the Tama City Fire Brigade and rides on their pump trucks. The integration of educational outreach and entertainment showcased how communities can come together for child engagement.
The Nagayama Community Center
Just a three-minute walk from Nagayama Station, the Nagayama Community Center hosted multiple exhibits and interactive experiences. Parents explored childcare options with displays showcasing the unique qualities of 42 local kindergartens and licensed childcare centers, while also participating in playful activities designed to immerse children in a fun and supportive environment.
In the experience area, visitors savored delicious snacks, including donut tastings, and marveled at the massive cooking utensils used in local schools. Meanwhile, exhibitions on Tama's residential environment featured VR experiences, allowing visitors to appreciate the community’s living spaces while enjoying informative displays.
Fun at Grinado Plaza
The final venue, Grinado Plaza, buzzed with activities such as a stamp rally organized by KTU (Keio Electric Railway, Tama City, UR Urban Development), a ring toss game from Tama University, and craft-making sessions facilitated by Keio Kids Place, encouraging families to partake in enjoyable activities together.
Testimonials from Attendees
Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. Residents noted, “It gets better every year, and this year was no exception. Thank you!” Visitors from outside expressed delight at the educational opportunities available alongside recreation, saying, “It was my first time attending, but it was fantastic. I learned a lot while having fun with my child.”
Even comments on the free booths suggested that the Tama region is perceived as a family-friendly environment, reinforcing the importance of building supportive communities around child-rearing. Many participants expressed eagerness to attend future events.
A Flourishing Community
Since its inception in 1971, Tama New Town has thrived in innovation, bringing fresh ideas and activities to the forefront. Recent renovations in the Nagayama area have contributed to a notable decrease in the vacated properties, improving community dynamics and attracting younger families. Recent studies show that the vacancy rate has dropped significantly, highlighting the efforts of diverse community-building projects that enhance Bass City’s appeal.
By inviting families and individuals to engage in local initiatives, Tama City is creating a vibrant community that resonates with vibrancy and collaboration.
