New Leadership at Palsystem Saitama: Ryo Ko Nishinouchi Assumes Role as Chairperson

On June 17, 2023, the Palsystem Saitama, a consumer cooperative based in Saitama Prefecture, held its 32nd regular general meeting at the Palace Hotel Omiya in Saitama City. The meeting saw a strong turnout with 382 of the 391 representatives present, including 118 in-person attendees and 264 by written vote. All four agenda items proposed during the meeting were approved unanimously, marking a significant step forward for the organization.

The approved agenda items included the following:
1. Approval of the business activity report and financial statements for the fiscal year 2024, including an audit report.
2. Establishment of the business activity policies and budget for fiscal year 2025.
3. Determination of the limits on officer compensation.
4. Approval for the payment of severance to retiring officers.

For the fiscal year 2024, Palsystem Saitama recorded a total business turnover of 33.15 billion yen. This figure exceeded both the planning targets and the previous year's results, supported by an increase in individual usage amounts driven by prolonged inflation and supply-demand pressures in the U.S. market. However, despite the revenue increase, the organization faced a decline in profits due to rising operational costs.

Looking ahead to fiscal year 2025, the focus will be on strengthening human resource acquisition and stabilizing the management foundation to ensure sustainable business operations. This priority will be instrumental in adapting to ongoing economic challenges and maintaining the cooperative's mission.

During the board selection process that took place after the general meeting, Ryo Ko Nishinouchi was appointed as the new chairperson, taking over from Tamiko Higuchi, who had served as chair for three consecutive terms spanning six years. Yoshio Morita, who previously held the position of executive director, will continue in this role.
