APEI Welcomes Edward Codispoti as New Chief Financial Officer

On October 20, 2025, American Public Education, Inc. (Nasdaq: APEI), a prominent provider of post-secondary education, announced the appointment of Edward H. Codispoti as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This strategic move comes as APEI aims to strengthen its financial operations and enhance its growth trajectory in the educational sector.

Edward Codispoti arrives at APEI with an impressive background of over 25 years in financial leadership across various industries, including technology, engineering, higher education, and financial services. His most recent role was CFO at NV5 Global, Inc., where he successfully guided the company through more than 45 merger and acquisition transactions. Codispoti's extensive experience in overseeing finance functions will be pivotal as APEI navigates its future ambitions.

Angela Selden, President and CEO of APEI, expressed her enthusiasm about Codispoti's appointment, stating, "Ed's strategic mindset and profound financial expertise will be invaluable as we work to advance our mission and drive our growth strategy forward." With APEI being a top educator for active-duty military and veterans, this transition is vital as the organization continues to uphold its commitment to serving those in the education sector. Codispoti is eager to bring his vision to APEI, remarking, "Their dedication and collaborative spirit inspire me, and I look forward to adding value for students in their educational journeys."

In his new role, Codispoti will manage all aspects of strategic financial planning, investor relations, and capital structure priorities not just for APEI, but also for its affiliated institutions. In preparation for this transition, Rick Sunderland, the outgoing CFO, will move into an advisory position, ensuring a seamless handover of responsibilities. Sunderland has played a crucial role over the past 12 years, helping to shape APEI's financial strategies through significant transformational changes.

Codispoti's career has also included notable positions as CFO at Ilumno Holdings, Ltd., where he provided learning platforms to numerous universities throughout Latin America, and at TradeStation Group, Inc. His journey in finance began in public accounting with Arthur Andersen, LLP. Codispoti holds a Bachelor of Accounting and a Master of Accounting from Florida International University, and he is a Certified Public Accountant.

As APEI continues its growth, they are also steadfast in their mission to provide transformative education that improves lives and communities. With institutions such as the American Public University System, Rasmussen University, and Hondros College of Nursing under its umbrella, APEI is committed to accessible and affordable higher education.

American Public University System (APUS) alone serves about 88,000 adult learners globally, especially focusing on military service members and veterans. Rasmussen University is celebrating its 125th year as a nursing and health sciences-focused institution, while Hondros College of Nursing is the largest pre-licensure nursing educator in Ohio.

The appointment of Codispoti is expected to infuse new energy and strategies into APEI's financial frameworks, helping to guide it as it continues to navigate changes and expansions in the higher education landscape. APEI remains accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is dedicated to developing its educational frameworks to empower future learners. This leadership change signals a pivotal evolution for APEI as it looks to adapt and thrive in a dynamic educational environment.
