Weichai Receives Multiple Honors at World Green Design Awards Ceremony in Brussels
Weichai Shines at the World Green Design Awards
Recently, the World Green Design Organization (WGDO) held its 15th Annual Conference and the Brussels Summit in Belgium, where Weichai Group garnered significant accolades for its innovations in green technology.
At the event, Weichai's high-efficiency engine series was awarded the prestigious "Green Design International Award." Furthermore, the company received the exceptional "Green Design International Contribution Award," marking it as the first enterprise in the industry to achieve such recognition. Alongside these achievements, five engineers from Weichai were honored with the "Green Design Engineer (Senior)" certificate by WGDO—further showcasing its commitment to sustainable design.
Acknowledging Green Innovations
The WGDO evaluation committee unanimously praised Weichai’s engine series, highlighting its environmentally friendly design attributes, future orientation, universality, systematic approach, synergy, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Notably, Weichai has progressively launched the world's first commercial diesel engines boasting thermal efficiencies exceeding 50%, achieving milestones of 51%, 52%, and 53%. This sets a benchmark for the global internal combustion engine industry regarding energy conservation, emissions reduction, and carbon footprint minimization, positioning Weichai as a stellar example of realizing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs).
Since its establishment, the WGDO has played an integral role as the first international non-profit organization promoting global green design development. It holds official EU certification and has attained "special consultative status" with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. Since 2011, the WGDO has introduced the Green Design International Award and the Green Design International Contribution Award to distinguish and honor products, technologies, and projects demonstrating outstanding achievements in green design and sustainable development, along with individuals and organizations making significant contributions worldwide.
In 2025, the WGDO received nearly 1,000 applications from 43 countries, of which 51 projects were shortlisted. A total of 20 projects were honored with the Green Design International Award (including nominations), and 3 with the Green Design International Contribution Award. Weichai's multiple award wins reflect the WGDO's high regard for the company's sustainable development initiatives.
With its continuous innovations and robust commitment to green technology, Weichai is not just leading in engine manufacturing but also setting a global standard for sustainability and environmental responsibility that other companies may aspire to achieve.
