The Conrad Challenge is back! This global STEM competition invites high school students aged 13 to 18 to be part of a fantastic journey. This year's applications opened on August 28, 2025, and will culminate in a showcase at the esteemed Space Center Houston.

What is the Conrad Challenge?

Founded in 2007 by Nancy Conrad, the challenge honors the legacy of her late husband, NASA astronaut Charles "Pete" Conrad. It focuses on igniting innovation and entrepreneurship among STEAM enthusiasts. The event not only cultivates scientific ingenuity but also fosters essential business acumen and innovation skills. Participants will need to collaborate in teams of two to five members to tackle real-world challenges across multiple categories, such as Aerospace & Aviation, Cyber-Technology & Security, Energy & Environment, Health & Nutrition, and The Water Challenge.

What to Expect

Participants will work under the guidance of industry mentors through the three stages of the competition. They’ll refine their ideas, enhancing their leadership and entrepreneurial skills while engaging in networking opportunities with industry leaders. This structured support is pivotal, offering invaluable insights into the world of innovation and technology. The Conrad Challenge is not just about competition; it is about building a community of future leaders who will shape the workforce of tomorrow.

This year's event promises to be larger than ever, following the recent success that saw over 4,000 students from 70 countries participate in the last edition. Last year’s record-breaking turnout reflects the growing interest in STEM fields and the imperative need for innovative solutions in today's world.

How to Enter

Students interested in applying should form their teams and get ready to unleash their creativity. Applications are submitted online, and participants can include friends, classmates, or siblings, regardless of where they are located globally. Also, repeat participants are welcome, provided they meet the age eligibility criteria.

This year’s kickoff event on August 28 at 7 PM CT will feature a live announcement on Instagram, kicking off the competition’s cycle. Students will set the wheels in motion as they brainstorm and develop concepts in response to pressing global issues.

A Legacy of Innovation

Nancy Conrad has expressed her enthusiasm for this competition, stating, "My husband, Pete, was a passionate advocate for innovation and entrepreneurship. I'm confident he would be incredibly proud of every participant striving for progress at such a young age. They're not only contributing to a brighter future but also helping to shape the next generation of leaders."
