Pudu Robotics Unveils the Next Generation PUDU D5 Series for Complex Outdoor Operations

Pudu Robotics Launches the PUDU D5 Series

Pudu Robotics, the Shenzhen-based robotics leader, has introduced its highly anticipated PUDU D5 Series, a new generation of autonomous four-legged robots specifically designed for complex and unstructured outdoor environments. This innovative series includes two configurations: the PUDU D5, offering leg-based mobility optimized for terrain adaptation, and the PUDU D5-W, a wheeled model engineered for peak performance on mixed surfaces.

Addressing Automation Gaps in Challenging Environments

While service robots have already made significant inroads in structured commercial settings like restaurants and hotels, many outdoor and industrial environments still pose significant challenges for automation. Issues such as uneven terrain, inclines, stairs, multi-level structures, and exposure to weather have limited the deployment of robots in critical tasks such as inspections, patrols, logistics support, and emergency response. The D5 Series was developed to bridge these gaps, enabling robots to operate in locations where traditional systems struggle. With advanced autonomy, robust mobility, precise recognition capabilities, and high environmental resilience, the D5 Series drastically expands the operational possibilities for robotic solutions.

Felix Zhang, the founder and CEO of Pudu Robotics, shared insights about the D5 Series, stating, "The PUDU D5 Series represents a significant leap in our robotics vision. The D5 successfully brings advanced autonomy, robust mobility, and intelligent interaction into complex outdoor environments and industrial-grade scenarios. For Pudu, the D5 is not just a new product; it's a milestone in our mission to integrate robots deeper into various sectors. We are building a collaborative ecosystem of specialized, semi-humanoid, and humanoid robots, ensuring that they complement each other's abilities to comprehensively meet diverse user needs."

Key Features of the PUDU D5 Series

Onboard Grade Computing for Autonomous Operation

The D5 is equipped with a dual-processor architecture featuring NVIDIA Orin and RK3588, providing up to 275 TOPS of processing power. This robust design allows real-time operations for SLAM, 3D reconstruction, object recognition, obstacle avoidance, and path planning simultaneously. Hence, the D5 supports continuous and unmanned operation even in dynamic environments.

High-Precision 360° Recognition

With the integration of four 120° fisheye cameras and dual 192-line LiDAR sensors, the D5 can achieve comprehensive environmental awareness. It generates high-density 3D point cloud data, enabling accurate self-localization and dynamic navigation. An optional remote visualization tool is also available, allowing operators to supervise missions as needed.

Navigation Capability Across a Million Square Meters

The D5 can map and navigate facilities of up to one million square meters. This capability ensures a fully autonomous workflow that includes departure, patrolling, obstacle management, and return to charging stations. With a single charge, the D5 can traverse 14 kilometers, making it ideal for airports, subways, and industrial campuses.

Robust Performance with 30 kg Carrying Capacity

Thanks to its high-strength aluminum structure and closed-loop torque control, the D5 can maintain continuous operation for over two hours while carrying loads of up to 30 kg. It is designed to accommodate a variety of inspection equipment, materials, and mission-specific modules.

All-Terrain Mobility for Complex Environments

The state-of-the-art hybrid mobility provided by wheels and legs allows the D5 to achieve speeds of 5 m/s on flat surfaces while surmounting inclines of 30° and steps of 25 cm. Its IMU-driven stabilization and bionic control algorithms ensure smooth and sustained operations on varying surfaces and challenging terrains.

All-Weather Durability and Extreme Robustness

Designed with real-world usage in mind, the D5 can cold start at -10°C and operate within a temperature range of -20°C to 55°C. Its IP67 rating guarantees dust and water resistance, delivering reliable performance in rain, snow, dust, and fluctuating climates.

Intelligent Following and Predictive Avoidance

Combining vision and depth sensing, along with a unique dynamic obstacle prediction algorithm, the D5 can execute natural and reliable autonomous following. It maintains a safe and stable distance even in narrow or crowded environments, making it suitable for inspection, logistics, and escort-type tasks.

Natural Interaction via Gesture and Voice Control

The D5 supports over ten intuitive hand gestures (such as start, stop, recall, and follow) while achieving high-accuracy voice recognition under noisy conditions, thanks to its AI noise reduction and a six-microphone array. This design fosters more human-friendly collaboration and seamless onsite operations.

Expanding Pudu Robotics' Embodied Intelligence Ecosystem

The PUDU D5 Series marks an expansion of Pudu Robotics’ embodied intelligence product line, bridging the gap from specialist service robots to complex industrial and outdoor environments. By complementing existing specialized, semi-humanoid, and humanoid robots, the D5 facilitates the deployment of robotic fleets in a wide array of scenarios – from industrial inspections to traffic infrastructure and outdoor security, thus creating a scalable ecosystem that addresses real-world operational challenges previously deemed unmanageable by autonomous systems.
