Mobimaru Partners with Shinagawa for Disaster Relief via Food Trucks

Mobimaru's Strategic Partnership for Disaster Resilience

On June 3, 2025, Synchro Food's mobile sales platform, Mobimaru, reached a significant milestone by formalizing an agreement with Shinagawa City, Tokyo. This accord focuses on implementing food truck operations during disaster scenarios, marking the first such partnership for Mobimaru within a Tokyo municipality.

Understanding the Collaboration

Shinagawa City has proactively developed its disaster preparedness plan, anticipating potential crises such as earthquakes and torrential rains, which could severely disrupt community life. The city recognizes that maintaining access to warm meals during emergencies is crucial for both the psychological well-being and overall health of those displaced.

This collaboration allows food trucks registered with Mobimaru to provide essential meals at evacuation centers in Shinagawa, ensuring that residents receive nutritious and quick meals during challenging times. The operational flexibility and swift deployment capabilities of these food trucks are expected to greatly enhance the city’s disaster response framework.

Insights from Local Leaders

Kyoko Morisawa, the Mayor of Shinagawa, expressed the urgency of addressing the growing frequency of natural disasters. With the recent updates from the Cabinet Office regarding disaster response guidelines that focus on providing essentials such as food, water, and sanitary facilities, Morisawa emphasized the importance of these enhancements in maintaining quality of life during evacuations.

Furthermore, the city has initiated several groundbreaking projects aimed at improving the living conditions in evacuation centers. These include distributing portable toilets, launching toilet trucks, and developing plans for toilet management during crises, slated for implementation in fiscal 2026. The city also plans to introduce new facilities like cardboard beds and water circulation showers to bolster comfort during demanding times.

The partnership with Synchro Food, particularly for supplying warm meals, is seen as a vital addition to these initiatives, contributing significantly to reducing stress among evacuees and aiding their refreshment.

Expanding the Role of Mobimaru

Akio Ota, Chief of the Mobimaru operations at Synchro Food, reflected on the company's journey since launching the mobile sales platform in 2019. He noted that the essence of their mission transcends mere food sales; they are committed to tackling societal challenges through their service. The team’s vision emphasizes a shift from the traditional 'going to the store' culture to 'the store coming to you.'

Ota highlighted the transformative nature of mobile sales, asserting it could effectively address issues, such as accessibility in food distribution and providing new opportunities within the restaurant sector. This disaster partnership is a testament to this belief, and Ota feels honored to be the first in Tokyo to sign such an accord.

Daily Operations in Shinagawa

Starting June 4, 2025, Mobimaru will also operate at Shinagawa City Hall, bringing more vitality to the area with food trucks set up in the Plaza on the third floor. This operation will run until March 31, 2026, taking place every Wednesday and Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM, featuring two different food trucks daily.
