CVS Pharmacy Unveils Its First Pharmacy-Focused Location in Boston, Enhancing Community Care
CVS Health® recently inaugurated its inaugural pharmacy-centric CVS Pharmacy® outlet in the Boston region, specifically situated at 32 Warren Street in Roxbury. This initiative is part of CVS's larger mission to enhance accessibility to pharmacy services, aiming to bridge existing gaps that hinder community members from obtaining crucial health resources. At this Roxbury location, residents will have convenient access to a variety of services, including medications, immunizations, and health consultations provided by qualified pharmacists.
Throughout 2026, CVS plans to open approximately 20 similar pharmacy-focused locations in strategically chosen communities nationwide, reinforcing its commitment to expand access to essential pharmacy care. These sites will feature a full-service pharmacy complemented by a tailored range of over-the-counter products. For items not readily available at the pharmacy, customers can readily place orders online with an option for free delivery to their residences.
The pharmacy's average footprint will be around 3,000 square feet, configured to ensure that patients have easy access not only to prescription medications but also to the expertise and trusted advice from CVS pharmacists in their neighborhoods. Sid Tenneti, Senior Vice President and Interim President of Pharmacy and Consumer Wellness at CVS Health, emphasized that the new Roxbury pharmacy exemplifies a significant step towards reimagining pharmacy care delivery by designing locations tailored to meet community needs. This expansion underscores CVS’s ongoing pledge to promote better health outcomes within local neighborhoods.
One of the notable features of the new Roxbury pharmacy is a safe medication disposal bin, catering to patients wishing to dispose of unnecessary or expired medications responsibly. Additionally, it serves as a site for safe needle collection, providing residents with a reliable means to safely discard used sharps.
The introduction of pharmacy-focused locations forms a crucial aspect of CVS's efforts to revolutionize its pharmacy operations. In recent years, CVS has realigned its retail model to better serve the diverse needs of its customer base. The new establishments will enhance the company's ability to support patients in the surrounding communities by adjusting the scale of its retail footprint to meet evolving pharmacy industry demands.
Apart from the new Roxbury site, CVS has previously opened pharmacy-focused locations in cities such as Birmingham, AL, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, Houston, TX, and Washington, D.C. This year, CVS also plans to inaugurate over 40 additional locations, including traditional pharmacy setups and those within Target stores.
Post-pandemic trends reveal a substantial preference for personal interaction in health care. According to the 2025 CVS Health® Rx Report, 80% of patients favor one-on-one pharmacy care, with nearly 48% indicating a willingness to switch pharmacies if confined to digital-only options. This sentiment resonates with the overwhelming majority of pharmacy professionals, with 97% recognizing the importance of in-person interactions. Marco Mares, Pharmacy Manager at CVS Pharmacy, highlighted that face-to-face consultations with pharmacists play a pivotal role in patient health maintenance and improvement.
The Roxbury pharmacy is ready to embrace the local community, establish meaningful relationships, and meet their pharmacy care requirements. Whether residents opt for the convenience of prescription delivery or prefer face-to-face consultations, CVS Pharmacy ensures that all patients have access to a spectrum of care options to suit their individual preferences. In summary, the new pharmacy-focused establishment in Roxbury not only enhances local access to essential health services but also reflects CVS’s commitment to community health.
